Did You Know…Spring of 2021 is the year of the Brood X 17 year cicadas? Trillions are expected to hit the east coast. Typically beginning in mid-May and ending in late June. These cicadas will begin to emerge approximately when the soil 8″ beneath the ground reaches 64 degrees Fahrenheit. For the majority of our students this will be their first experience. Here is more information.

FCPS-issued Laptops

As we prepare for our Saxons to return to the building, please be sure that you are using your FCPS-issued laptop regularly. FCPS laptops are optimized to work on the school network, unlike devices you may be using at home. Additionally, many school programs and tests are required to be run on your FCPS laptop. If you have not been using your FCPS laptop regularly, please begin doing so now to prepare yourself to bring it every day you are in the building. If your laptop requires updates, drive to the nearest FCPS school and turn the laptop on in the parking lot. The laptop will connect to the FCPS network and download important updates. Please submit an IT request if you are having difficulty with your school laptops.

Online vs. In-person Instruction

To view your decision, please be sure to log-in to ParentVue on a computer (the app version on mobile devices does not show this information) and click on the Student Info tab.  Your decision can be found near the bottom of the page.

If you would like to request a change in your status, please use the link below.  ALL requests MUST be submitted through the link below.  At this time, we are unable to accommodate students moving from online to in-person instruction however, we will create a waitlist to review if/when conditions allow.  Should we be able to accommodate your request, we will follow up with you accordingly.

SY20-21 Instructional Method Change Request (Late): https://forms.gle/THr3g8VCZQDWukG16

Action Requested: Help save trees and FCPS $$ on postage by opting in to receive “Paperless” Report Cards (that can be printed through ParentVUE)

Parents/Guardians may opt into “Go Paperless” for report cards by following the below instructions:

  • Parents/Guardians can take advantage of the paperless option, by logging into ParentVUE, then going to “My Account” and selecting "Go Paperless!". This is the only way to keep a paper report card from being generated for students at the secondary level. All parents who share the same address as the student must have a SIS ParentVUE account and must select the paperless option.

Virtual Parent Education Series

Substance Abuse Prevention

Tune into this three-part Parent Education Series on Substance Abuse Prevention hosted by FCPS Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist, Kelly Rankin. The series will provide three 20-minute sessions for parents about the development of the teenage brain, impact of drugs on its development, and current drug trends. Each session is offered twice; choose the time that works best for you!  With a goal of building awareness and arming parents with the knowledge and tools to identify early signs of substance use, the series will explore parents' role in prevention, including how to have an effective conversation with your child about addiction.

Click here to join a session on the following dates and times:

Part 2 - Drugs and the Teenage Brain on March 25, 2021 at noon and 7pm

Part 3 - Drug Trends: Identifying Common Household Items and Drug Culture on April 22, 2021 at noon and 7pm Kelly Rankin serves as a resource for students and parents with questions or concerns about substance use or addiction. She can be reached at Krankin@fcps.edu or 703-287-2744.
