Happy last Friday of February!

Can you believe we are marching into March after this weekend? How appropriate as students begin to “march” into our halls again this coming week. As a reminder, in-person students should bring in fully charged laptops and their chargers each day. Additionally, please have them bring in refillable water bottles as the refilling stations are available should they need to refill. For our students remaining virtual or those in-person students home on virtual days, we are encouraging all students to have their cameras on for the remainder of the year to build community and ensure that virtual students continue to feel a part of the classroom. Let’s see those smiles!

Students returning to school in-person should make sure to have their schedule and room numbers with them when they arrive to school. Room numbers are listed in SIS StudentVUE.  During the school day, teachers will share what lunch your child will have.

Our new bell schedule begins this week to accommodate for three lunches. The details are below:

This week, we welcomed back students with our in-person orientation. It was a wonderful event, and thank you for all following our directions and entering and exiting on time. For our staff, it was a great week of reconnecting and meeting new friends in person as well. We wanted to thank the City’s 29 Diner for helping us welcome the teachers back with a pre-packed lunch. Did you know that 29 Diner is a marvelous community partner who has stepped up to feed our community during the pandemic? As the attached flyer says, “29 Diner’s Free Community Kitchen" has fed over 50,000+ food insecure individuals and families, fed community heroes, and brought awareness to mental health issues troubling our community!” If you visit this business, be sure to tell them Lanier sent you! They have also donated $300 to our PTA.

If you missed last night’s viewing of “Angst” sponsored by our PTA, you missed a great event. Good news, you still have time to watch! The PTA has paid for rights for the entire weekend. Please see the information below to access the viewing details. Special thanks to our panelists for sharing their expertise and experience after the film: Luke Donald (moderator and LMS counselor), Jenn Wright (PTA President and licensed therapist), Jini Kapur (LMS psychologist), and Allie McGuire (LMS alum and FHS sophomore). It will be worth the hour to watch this film.

Enjoy the weekend,

Tammy Hanna

Missed Angst last night? It's not too late!

as

On top of academic and social stress, the uncertainty and fears of this past pandemic year have brought all of us a lot more anxiety than before. Angst helps break this down, explaining what’s going on, and what we can do about it to help both ourselves and others. It features World Champion Swimmer Michael Phelps, experts in the field, and regular teenagers

If you couldn't join us last night for our virtual screening of Angst you can still view the film and panel discussion over the weekend. From midnight tonight until 11:59pm on February 28th the film and panel discussion are available at the following link:

https://distlab.indieflix.com/ocs/Angst/SidneyLanier/watch.html

Login: lanier@indieflix.com

Password: lanier

For our non-English speaking families, please note that subtitles for the film can be turned on in several languages on the video player progress bar where it says "CC". The Q&A Panel discussion can be found at the top of the "Additional Materials" section on the right. Unfortunately, subtitles are not available for the panel discussion.

This film is appropriate for children 10 years and older so we encourage you to invite your middle schooler to join you in viewing.

Lanier is interested in getting feedback regarding the interests and needs of our parents. Please take a few moments to complete the following survey. Information from the survey will help the school create programs to better support parents and families in our school community.

Fairfax Water Payment Assistance

Need help paying your Fairfax Water bill?  Eligible residents can apply for assistance through the COVID-19 Municipal Utility Relief Program.  Apply today!  Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Drinking water and wastewater utilities provide a critical service to the community, especially during a pandemic.  To provide financial relief for customers in need, Fairfax Water is working with Fairfax County, the City of Falls Church, and the City of Fairfax to administer funds received from the Commonwealth of Virginia’s COVID-19 Municipal Utility Relief Program.

Many families are struggling to pay utility bills due to the impacts of COVID-19.  Thanks to the Commonwealth's COVID-19 Municipal Utility Relief Program, Fairfax Water can now offer assistance to customers who are having difficulty paying their bills.  We currently have funds available, and we are asking customers to apply soon before the funds run out!  The application and additional info on the program is available on our website here.  The form is available in multiple languages.
