On their first full day of school in the building, Weyanoke kindergarten students walked through the halls on the way to recess. During their outside time, they were able to play with hula hoops, balls, sidewalk chalk, and other fun toys!

School Pictures

The last opportunity this year to have Lifetouch take portraits of your child is on Thursday, February 25 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. This year the process will be different, pictures will be taken by family instead of by class. To sign-up for a time slot for the Weyanoke students in your family please click here. Families may order photos at www.MyLifetouch.com  using the picture day ID: EVTVK472H (The Picture Day ID expires at midnight of the last picture day - 2/25/2021.)

Pictures will be taken in the Gym at your scheduled time. One parent and student(s) will enter through door #5 which is near the playground. Safety protocols must be followed before entering the building. Everyone present MUST always wear a face covering. Student(s) and parent will arrive with masks on and the students should be camera ready (jackets already removed, etc.) When it is their turn, students will step into the picture taking area and will remove their mask and hold it in their hand until their photo is finished.  (Hands will not show in the finished image.) After the picture is taken, the student is instructed to place the mask back on and then exit through the designated door.

If you have any questions please contact Dorothy Walsh at dlwalsh1@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-813-5400

Concurrent Instruction means that teachers are teaching both in-person and online students at the same time.  With the phase in of in-person students starting on the identified days in the above schedule, from a parent perspective you will notice (if your child’s teacher is teaching concurrently):

  • In the beginning, for students who are learning online, there will be an increased amount of asynchronous work as teachers work with children in the classroom to teach and practice in-class routines and procedures
  • In the beginning, for students who are learning online, they may not participate in small groups while procedures are being established in the classroom
  • Students who are learning online, whether for the day or all-year, within 4 weeks will be included more in instruction which directly involves the classroom teacher and schedules will be adjusted by the teacher accordingly

Chrome Sync Rollout

As part of FCPS’s ongoing effort to support student use of technology, Chrome Sync and the ability to save passwords will be available as an option starting on February 18th.  Students are not required to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, but may choose to them in order to:

  • reduce their log-in time.
  • access bookmarks and extensions across devices.

Chrome will remember and offer saved passwords when students are logging into different instructional applications. Chrome will also make bookmarks and extensions available on any device in which the student logs into Chrome and turns on Sync.

If your student would like to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, support resources are available on the FCPS website.  If your child is logging into Chrome now, they may need to log out of Chrome and log back in to see the new features.

What you need to know about the covid-19 vaccine

“Is the COVID-19 vaccine for people like me?”

Commonly Asked Questions

Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe?

Millions of people nationwide and worldwide have already received the vaccine with no serious side effects.

Is the COVID-19 vaccine effective?

The vaccines are over 90% effective in protecting against the COVID-19 virus.

What are the side-effects of the vaccine?

Many people experience mild pain where they get the vaccine shot, headaches, muscle aches, tiredness, and fever. These reactions are a sign that your body is building immunity to the virus, and usually go away in one to two days.

Can you get COVID-19 from the vaccine?

No. There is no live virus in the makeup of the vaccine so you cannot get the virus.

How was this vaccine created so quickly?

While the vaccine is new, the technologies used to develop these vaccines are not new. There has been over a decade of research into coronaviruses and the vaccine technology. The COVID-19 vaccines have gone through the same safety standards and approval process as all  other vaccines.

Does the vaccine interact with your DNA?

No.  The messenger RNA (mRNA) component of the vaccine never enters the nucleus of the cell where our DNA is.  The mRNA leaves the body after about 7 days.

Will the vaccine work in people like me?

The vaccine trials included over 100,000 volunteers from different races and age groups. People with medical conditions like diabetes and hypertension were also a part of the trials.
