Congrats to Caroline Poole, who won Patriot District Champion for the Cavs in the 1000m, and also to the Cav Girls 4 x 800m relay team, who also medaled in 1st place for Patriot District and to top that off, won 4 x 800m relay Occoquan Region Champ as well.

Varsity Rifle Team

Woodson Rifle wins Regionals!  Woodson Cavaliers end their rifle season not only coming in first overall in the regular season, but securing first place in the regional match as well.  Freshman Ben Hayes joined Captains and Seniors Merredith Ivey, Victoria Kopelen and Nate Wehrlen on the scoring team to lock in the win with a combined score of 2300 out of 2400 in this 60 shot standing match. Once again the regional match was a very competitive one. This match win was 9 points more than the second place team, Lake Braddock, and 11 points greater than Robinson. Nate Wehrlen placed third overall in the match shooting 578 out of 600 with 29 center 10s. Ben Hayes and Meredith Ivey were right behind Nate in 4th and 5th place shooting a 577 and a 576 respectively. Woodson Cavaliers received invitations for 10 other teammates to join the scoring team in Saturday's match.  Seniors Yannie Chang, Joe Hall, Kian Salinsky; Juniors Kyle Barron, Victoria Cross, Justin Mangis, Rose McClelland, Emma Orthman, Joseph Stefanski; and Sophomore Nina Wheeler represented their team at Saturday's Regional Match.  Coaches, teammates, and parents could not be more proud of these Woodson Cavaliers who held strong throughout this season which had a delayed start and a practice that was canceled due to weather right before the match. These athletes and their teammates showed that the training they did on their own outside of the season coupled with the dedicated and focused training in season paid off as they again delivered solid performances on the range.

In addition to the regular season win and Regional win, Woodson's rifle team had many athletes make the All Metro Air Rifle Selections.  Making the All Metro First team were Freshman Ben Hayes, Senior Nate Wehrlen,  Senior Meredith Ivey, and Senior Victoria Kopelen.  Honorable Mentions were awarded to Senior Yannie Chang, Junior Emma Orthman, Junior Victoria Cross, Junior Rose McClelland, Junior Kyle Barron, Senior Joe Hall, and Junior Justin Mangis. Congratulations for once again giving Woodson a reason to be proud of its Cavaliers.

Watch all of Woodson's HOME athletic events on the Woodson Broadcast Studio channel on YouTube. AWAY contests are streamed on the host-schools’ YouTube channels.

New Activities & Athletics Registration Site

FCPS activities and athletic programs have transitioned to a new online student registration system.  This new system offers a host of benefits for schools and community members including:

  • One stop shop for registering your student for athletic programs and many common activities occurring throughout the school year
  • Electronic submission of the emergency care card and weight room waiver- only have to fill these out once!
  • A new home for the state-mandated concussion education program.

Google Chrome Sync

As part of FCPS’s ongoing effort to support student use of technology, Chrome Sync and the ability to save passwords is now available.  Students are not required to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, but may choose to do so in order to:

  • reduce their log-in time.
  • access bookmarks and extensions across devices.

Chrome will remember and offer saved passwords when students are logging into different instructional applications. Chrome will also make bookmarks and extensions available on any device in which the student logs into Chrome and turns on Sync.

If your student would like to use Chrome Sync and save passwords, support resources are available on the FCPS website.  If your child is logging into Chrome now, they may need to log out of Chrome and log back in to see the new features.

It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and a interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.
