Lane Yearbook Needs a Picture of Your Child – Deadline Extended to February 26th!

Thanks again to all of the families who have already emailed a portrait picture of their child for the 2020 – 2021 Lane yearbook! In case you haven’t done so yet, please note that we’ve extended the deadline until the end of this month, Friday, February 26th!

Due to restrictions about outsiders on school campuses, we are not be able to have portraits taken by professional photographers as we usually do. In order for your child to have a current picture in this year’s book, we need you to take it. Please make sure we can see your child’s face clearly, and limit busy backgrounds or additional items in the frame.

Once you’ve taken the picture, email it to laneyearbook2021@gmail.com. In the subject line, include your child’s last name and teacher’s name. Please make sure the photos you share through email from your phone are “large” size or “actual size” so it will print well. If you are attaching a file from photos stored on your computer, please make sure the file is at least a size of 1 megabyte (1MB). Screenshots or copies of online photos (such as from Facebook or Twitter) are too small.

If we do not receive a current picture of your child, we may need to find a way to have him/her take a picture of him-/herself using the laptop camera or use his/her March 2020 portrait from last year’s Spring Picture Day (if your child was enrolled in Lane at that time). Please send in a current picture if you are able!

Feel free to share learning at home pictures, too. If you have questions, please contact our parent liaison and yearbook coordinator, Melanie Crosby Hardy at macrosby@fcps.edu.

SCA Jersey Day 3

SCA Spirit Day – “Jersey Day” – Friday, February 26th!

All students are encouraged to celebrate their favorite sport or sports team on Friday, February 26th, by wearing a jersey or team spirit gear for SCA’s “Jersey Day”! Students who don’t have a jersey or aren’t into sports can wear something that represents their favorite hobby or just their favorite shirt. We hope your child will participate.

Calling All Kindergarteners for Next School Year!

Do you have a child who will enter kindergarten next year at Lane? Do you know of friends or neighbors who do? If so, we need your help!

A “Survey of Preschool Children” eligible for kindergarten enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year is currently being conducted. We request that parents of students eligible for kindergarten complete and return this survey to our school’s office. A child who will reach his or her fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2021, is eligible for kindergarten this coming fall.

Please return the survey by March 31st. You can fill it out online, save it as a PDF, and send it as an attachment to our registrar, Jami O’Hagan, at jjohagan@fcps.edu. You can also print and mail the form to the school or drop it off in person.

Please share this information with any parent of a rising kindergarten child in your neighborhood that may not have a child in our school and is not aware of this survey.

Thank you!

Public Comment Opportunity: Review of the History and Social Science Standards of Learning

Which stories, events, individuals, and perspectives are centered in our history and social science curriculum? Whose stories are marginalized or missing entirely? What priorities should shape the design of curriculum standards? These important questions are key drivers of curriculum reform for cultural responsiveness in FCPS Social Studies.

FCPS students, educators, families, and community members may review and comment on the current standards via VDOE’s website. The public comment period is open through March 1, 2021. All comments received by that date will be considered for the review and revision of the History and Social Science Standards of Learning.

You may also email your comments on the current History and Social Science Standards of Learning to FCPSsocialstudiesreform@fcps.edu to share feedback directly with the team. Reviewing these comments will better enable the FCPS team to advocate for our community’s priorities and to support ongoing revision curriculum resources and related professional development.
