Dear Fairfax,

Happy Friday!  It has been fun to see winter weather and the much-anticipated and long-awaited snow day--even in the virtual world.

If you did not have the opportunity to read my Return to In Person letter last week, please take a few moments to do so.  It was chock-full of important information for both virtual and in-person students.  Here is a link to the letter.

I do have an important Lion Time update:  As of March 3rd, students will now remain with their Lion Time teachers (no rotations).  We will have a structured way in which students can receive extra support, and though this will be our first time attempting an intervention period with virtual livestreams, in person, and concurrent students, it is the right shift for our students.  We plan to use next week’s Lion Time periods to provide more details to our students.  Bottom line, they will be given back most Lion Times (4th periods) to do homework, seek extra support as available, and...just…breathe.

We will continue to provide our student celebrations in our News You Choose (many below), and we often count on our parents to keep us grounded.  With so many activities and events, we try to keep pace, but we are always very appreciative when we are sent emails and pictures as well!  Please send any celebration along to Lea Im at lsim@fcps.edu.

Most respectfully,

Erin Lenart

FHS Academic Letter and Straight A Celebration

Congratulations to the 564 students who earned an Academic Letter for the 2019-2020 school year.  In addition, we also want to congratulate students who earned all A’s so far in the 2020-2021 school year.  We had 294 students from first quarter and 277 students from second quarter! The PTSA Academic Boosters in coordination with the Student Services department wants to congratulate and celebrate these students.  Electronic invitations for a socially distanced celebration being held on Monday, February 22 will be sent to students who achieved one or more of these recognitions next week, so be on the lookout!

cap

Seniors - Cap & Gown Information

Cap and gowns are required for graduation ceremonies.  If you have not purchased yours yet, it’s not too late but don’t wait too much longer as prices will increase.   Below are the instructions for purchasing just a cap and gown.  You may also choose to select other more expensive packages, if you would prefer.  However ONLY a cap and gown is required to participate in the graduation ceremony in June.

Step 1: Go to www.Jostens.com and select Fairfax High School

Step 2: Scroll Down and Select “Browse All Grad Cap/Gown”

Step 3: Scroll to the bottom and select “Browse All Cap & Gown Products”

Step 4: Go to Individual Products and select Cap & Gown Unit.  This will come with a FHS Class of 2021 tassel.  You do NOT need to purchase a separate tassel.

If you have financial concerns about ordering a cap and gown, please let reach out to your counselor.

Tech Update

Did you know? To get the most recent updates on your FCPS computer, including the StudentDen icon, you can pull up to the nearest FCPS building (Elementary, Middle, or High school) and restart your computer.  Once it reboots, you will want to log in, let it stay on the network for ten minutes (you can be using it during that time).

After ten minutes, you will want to Restart (not close the lid) so the updates will install.

If this doesn’t update your Student Den Icon for whatever reason, here is the direct link to the Student den.
