Justice Newsletter - February 15

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

We are working hard to ensure our students, staff, and building are prepared to shift to in-person instruction. Some adjustments will impact all our students, including the new bell schedule starting on Tuesday, February 16th.  As many of our families begin to shift to in-person instruction, FCPS has put together some additional resources to help provide information about returning to school and reducing the spread of the Coronavirus (see below).

Last week, we hosted two town hall sessions for our families and students to learn more about concurrent instruction and how learning will look once faculty returns to the building. Below are the links for your information. We have one more town hall scheduled for our Spanish speaking families planned for February 17th.

We have scheduled school tours for students new to Justice to get familiar with the building before returning to the first day.  Please see the announcement below for more information.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Return to School Schedule

Grades 9 and 12 will return in person on March 2. Grades 10 and 11 will return on March 9. Students will be assigned two in-person days: For the most part, students assigned dates are based on:

  • Last Name A-K -- Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Last Name L-Z -- Thursdays and Fridays

The other days will be virtual instruction. School hours are 8:20 am - 2:50 pm.

Return to School Orientation

On Thursday February 25th and on Friday February 26th from 2:00pm-6:00pm we will be holding 20-25 minute guided tours through Justice High School.  Our goal is to show students the layout of the building, where their classes will take place and what they will need to know in order to make a safe and successful transition into the building.

This orientation is only for students that are returning in-person.  Please follow this link to request a time for your tour.

New Bell Schedules

A new bell schedule will go into effect on Tuesday, February 16 through February 26th. Starting March 2, we will implement a new, final bell schedule which allows for five lunch periods for those students attending in person. Both bell schedules can be found on our web site.

Parking Pass Updates

Last week, we mailed parking passes to all juniors who submitted applications. We still have spaces available, so we will continue to accept applications on a first-come, first-served basis according to the following timeline:

  • February 10 February 24: Applications for any remaining spaces open to seniors and juniors on a first-come, first-served basis
  • March 1: Parking passes mailed to juniors
  • March 2 or March 4: Parking passes available at Justice HS for any seniors who submitted an application during the 2/10 – 2/24 window

Lunches, Lockers, and Laptops

Lunch will be available each day in the cafeteria.  We will have four 30-minute lunch shifts with approximately 160 students for each lunch shift.  Students will be socially distanced in the cafeteria and can remove their mask while eating.  Students will be able to talk casually with the students seated near them; however, they will not be able to travel about the cafeteria during lunch.

We will not be using lockers this year.  Students will need to use a backpack for belongings, and they will need to bring their charged laptop, charger, and headphones each day.  Students should also bring a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day.  In addition, students will not be changing their clothes for physical education class at this point.
