All students will keep their same schedules and teachers after the transition to in-person instruction. Thanks to Dr. Floyd and her staff for working hard to provide this stability for our students.

Lockers will not be issued. Students will need to keep everything with them during the school day, including their lunch. (Sports lockers will be available for athletes to store their equipment, but will only be accessible before and after school.)

Breakfast and lunch will be available free of charge for all students daily.

Bus route information will be communicated shortly.

The building will be open to freshman and new students for optional self-guided tours on February 25 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

Woodson’s staff has been working incredibly hard to have a successful return to campus. Please show them patience and grace as any kinks are worked out during the coming weeks.

TONIGHT! Return to School Town Hall with Dr. Floyd 

In anticipation of students returning to school in March, Dr. Floyd will host a Return to School Town Hall tonight Tuesday, February 16 at 7pm. The link to join the Town Hall was emailed to parents Monday afternoon.

The focus of this Town Hall will be in-school procedures. One note, based on data from the CDC and other organizations, temperature checks have been discontinued at building entry. We will continue to check temps for students not wearing a mask or not feeling well. Masks and 6 foot distancing are required and we will constantly remind students to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer.

PSAT for 10th Graders on April 19th

On Monday, April 19th, Woodson High School 10th graders will have the opportunity to take the PSAT 10.

FCPS will cover the cost for any 10th grade student to take this test.

General information about the PSAT 10 test format is available on the College Board webpage.

Monday, April 19th has been designated for independent learning in FCPS high schools, so students who choose to take the PSAT 10 will not miss synchronous instruction or intervention with their teachers.

We will share more details about test day schedules and bus transportation in the coming weeks.

Reality Check Presentation for New Drivers - Registration Deadline February 26

This is NOT the PSTD and is NOT required.  It is a series of free webinars being offered by INOVA for new drivers.

Registration is now open! Reality Check starts on March 1st as a series. 

  • March 1st- Graduated License Procedure
  • March 8th– Drug/Alcohol Presentation, How Teens Affect My Car Insurance, A Trip to the ED, and Sharing the Road
  • March 15th– Trauma Surgeon Presentation and Survivor Speakers

Sessions are progressive, building upon each other. The series concludes with a debrief at the end of the third session.

2021 Teen Summer Production Camps Overview and schedule (open for ages 12-18)

Radio camps overview:  As part of our Radio Camps, students will learn the use of our WRLD radio studio equipment (audio board, mics, tapes, and recording decks) and learn the procedures on how to conduct a radio show at our station.  During the camp, students will work in creating individual show segments such as, news reports, traffic updates, or specific student-selected themes.  Together with their fellow students, they will works towards the goal of creating a pre-recorded 1-hour radio show. 

TV Camps overview:  FPA offers three distinct versions of the television production camps.  An indoor television studio production camp, a field production documentary-style camp and a post-production camp, focusing in teaching the use of Adobe Premiere and the role of a video editor.  As part of each TV 101 Camp, students will learn the core equipment functions, crew positions and requirements, and the numerous planning steps

SENIOR LEGACY BRICKS - A special way to honor your WTW graduate

Senior parents, Don't forget to order your Senior Legacy Brick in honor of your graduating Senior (or for other family members who are W.T. Woodson alumni). These Bricks make excellent graduation gifts!! The Bricks will be installed in the courtyard between the main entrance and the auditorium entrance. We will strive to have them installed before the Senior Baccalaureate ceremony, but definitely before 2021 Graduation.

Reminder About Athletic Facilities Access

Due to social distancing measures and protocols, our Athletic Facilities will be closed to the public during Woodson Athletic practices weekdays from 3pm-6pm. The end time may extend without notice.

Woodson Parents and Guardians, please communicate to your students that if they do not have a scheduled in-season practice or an out-of-season workout, then they should not be using Woodson athletic facilities.

The Woodson Athletics Department celebrated the commitment and dedication of the following Cav Indoor Track and Field student-athletes:  Naiya Caraang, Max Weiss, Michael Seraphin-Jones, Roberto Rodriquez, Jonah Oxman, Napat Juntima, Reuben Hemmerdinger, Logan Bishop, Jon Clanor, Sean Duble, Antoine Emil, Lydia Falardeau, Teddy Geis, Vivian Gibbons, Lena Hasan, Bob Johnson, Samar Josyula, Kayla Koldys, Drew Laikin, Paige Loomis, Makayla Mastal, Ben Miller, Zach Moore, Forrest Nottingham, Ryan O’Connor, Tom Orrel, Caroline Poole, Jackson Shea, Jesse Silkowitz, Colin Sliwa, Forrest Slaterbeck, and Ciara Sinclair.  Thank you all for carrying on the Cav Track and Field efforts and traditions.

Boys Varsity Basketball

The Cavs Boys Hoops team played their first round Occoquan Regional Basketball Tournament on our home court and friendly confines of The Red Room and came away with a 64-32 victory over Justice High.  It was a great way for our Seniors to create one more warm memory at Home.

Next the Cavs Hoops team traveled down the road on 236 over to Annandale High for the Regional Quarterfinal.  The Boys got it done and prevailed 61-48 over the Atoms, sending the team into the Regional Semifinals.

The Cavs wrapped up their season with a hard fought contest in the Semis against recent Regional powerhouse South County, falling to a strong Stallions team.  Thanks to all of the players, managers, and coaches for a fine season.

Girls Varsity Basketball

On Monday, February 8, the Varsity Girls Basketball team travelled to Mount Vernon for the first Occoquan Regional Playoff game. Woodson won this exciting game in OT 58-52. Anna Wiggins led the Cavs scoring with 24 points, followed by Sabina Niedrick (12), Allie Maahs (10), Eunice Yoon (5), Kate Torgersen (4) and Levi Weinberger (3). Katherine Friedman created havoc defensively with her on ball pressure. Zoe Hite and Sydney Carey provided a spark off the bench to keep the Cavs in the game. Eunice Yoon had an impressive 10 Defensive rebounds to (4) and Zoe Hite (1). Great Win for the Lady Cavs as they advance to the Quarter Finals to face West Springfield. 

February 9, The Cav Girls Basketball team faced West Springfield for the fourth time this season - this time win or go home Regional Quarter final game. The Lady Cavs competed toe to toe with the Spartans for the first quarter led by Anna Wiggins with 9 pts in that first 8 minutes. The Spartans pulled away however and defeated the Cavaliers 53-33. Anna Wiggins had a great night scoring 18 total points and 7 defensive rebounds. Followed by Eunice Yoon with 4 points and 2 defensive rebounds. Other Cavs helping out on the scoreboard was Sabina Neidrick (3), Julia Oleyar (3), Sydney Carey (3) and Allie Maahs (2). Thank you to Seniors Tara Gilligan, Zoe Hite, Kate Togersen, Katherine Friedman, Allie Maahs and Anna Wiggins. We have loved watching you play and can’t wait to see what the future holds for you! Also Congratulations to Anna Wiggins and Eunice Yoon who made the Second Team All-Region team!

The VHSL State Swim meet that was scheduled for last week has been postponed until this Friday, Feb. 19th. It will be held at the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sports Center in Stafford, VA. 

Varsity Rifle Team

The Cavs carried on their Rifle Team tradition of performance excellence finishing the regular season in First Place.

The Woodson Athletic Department celebrated the dedication and contributions of the Cav Varsity Rifle Team last week: Meredith Ivey, Joe Hall, Joseph Kessler, Logan McBurney, Yannie Chang, Kian Salinsky, Nate Wehrlen, and Victoria Kopelen.  Their memories made and representation of Woodson High are saluted.

New Activities & Athletics Registration Site

FCPS activities and athletic programs have transitioned to a new online student registration system.  This new system offers a host of benefits for schools and community members including:

  • One stop shop for registering your student for athletic programs and many common activities occurring throughout the school year
  • Electronic submission of the emergency care card and weight room waiver- only have to fill these out once!
  • A new home for the state-mandated concussion education program.

Laptop Tech Support Hours

If parents or students need FCPS laptop technical support at Woodson HS, the following must be completed:

  1. Submit a ticket using the FCPS Parent/Student Tech Support Portal,
  2. Schedule an appointment to come on-site, and
  3. Complete a health screening questionnaire prior to arriving. 

Laptop tech support hours by appointment only are:

Monday - 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm 
Tuesday and Wednesday - 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
Thursday and Friday - 9:00 am - 11:30 am


Parent Technology Help Desk

To support families who are working with their children during distance learning, FCPS launched a new Parent Technology Help Desk. The number is 1-833-921-3277 (833-921-FCPS). It will be answered by staff 7 a.m.to 11 p.m., seven days a week. If the help desk is unable to solve the issue on the phone with the parent or guardian, they will enter a ticket on the parent’s behalf and the request for help will be transferred to the appropriate FCPS team. 

Parents or guardians who need help in a language other than English should let help desk staff know, and a interpreter will join them on the line. (FCPS also has existing parent information phone lines, available in eight different languages, that can assist with general questions about FCPS.)

FCPS has also set up an online portal to allow older students and parents and guardians to request technology help directly.

Woodson Library Curbside Pickup 

Students who place a hold on an available book by Friday at noon can pick up that book on the following Monday between 10 am and 2 pm from a cart outside of the main entrance or just inside of Door 1 if it is raining. Students may place up to five (5) holds.   

Students can use their FCPSSchools.net account or go to our Woodson Virtual Library site to learn how to place a hold.

Math Center

Math Center

Students can find the Math Center link at the top of the CAV KIOSK.

  • Set up an appointment for tutoring on the  Math Center’s Make An Appointment page.  We are open Tuesdays & Thursdays during the 2nd half of Learning Seminar and Lunch on Tuesdays & Thursdays.  We are also open the first half of 5th period for Academy students who have a travel period or students with a study hall/release period.
  • Students may also come to Math Center  for tutoring via a BB course titled:  WHS Math Center 2020-21 (Walk-in Appointments).  Within the site, students will find a BBCU link to join.

Writing Center is Open!

Writing Center

Students can meet with a tutor on Mondays between 10am and 2 pm, as well as during unencumbered returns.  After students schedule a time through the BlackBoard site, they will use the BBCU link on the site to enter the Writing Center and work with a tutor in a breakout session.  Students will be able to present their work so they can work through the writing easily.
