Boys Varsity Basketball
Wednesday night the WTW Boys Varsity team took on the Robinson Rams in the Red Room for an awesome 49-41 win! The boys continue to show their skill set on the court and it is fun to watch! Devin Cuviello and Alex Klein were our high scorers for the night with 21 and 10 points respectively. Abdul, Moe, Xavier, Rubeel, Sinneh, Brady, and Andre also added to the boys total for the night! Brady Lencz dominated with rebounds- 6 offensive and 4 defensive boards. Devin Cuviello had 8, Moe Raff had 6, Andre Pacheco for 4, Anthony Meaders and Alex Klein each had 3, and Xavier Barry had 2 to support the squad. It was a good win and a solid night at home for the boys.
Thursday night was not as awesome as the boys lost to a formidable Lake Braddock Bruin team on their home court, with a final score of 101-78, Andre Pacheco, Devin Cuviello, Alex Klein, and Brady Lencz were the high scorers with 18, 15, and 10 (both Brady and Alex had 10!) points respectively. Abdul, Rubeel, Sinneh, Anthony, and Jack Gallagher all got in on the action as well! Our rebounding Thursday was not as strong as Wednesday, but we were still going in there after the ball. Devin Cuviello had 6, Anthony Meaders with 4, Sinneh Bangura for 3, Brady Lencz had 3, Andre Pacheco with 3, and Xavier Barry got 1 as well. It was a tough loss, but next week we head into Regional Payoffs with our heads high! Let’s go Cavs!
Girls Varsity Basketball
Wednesday night in the Patriot District Tournament quarterfinals, the Girls Hoops team won the rematch of their final Patriot District regular season game of 2021 by soundly defeating the Fairfax Lions. Nearly every player earned their way onto the floor for some game action and was highlighted by likely our Senior Girls last time competing on the hardwoods in Woodson High’s home court, The Red Room.
Next, the team lost a tight and highly contested game versus historical girls basketball power-house West Springfield on Thursday night at the Spartan’s home court, a game that saw the Cavs jump out to a large lead after the first quarter, tied at half-time, however eventually succumbing to the Spartans at the end.
The coaches and team will face Mount Vernon High this week in the Occoquan Regional Tournament opening round.
