Return to School Updates
Greetings Majors Family,
As many of you have heard, Fairfax County School Board Unanimously Supports Superintendent's Plan to Bring All Students Back. Please review this document for the details regarding this plan. As we have shared, instruction will look slightly different when all students return because we will be using concurrent instruction to support both in-school and virtual students. Please join me for Lunch with the Principal Tuesday, February 16, 2021 from 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. for more information about the Return to School plan for Mount Vernon High School. You can join by using this link. It is important that you complete this Health Screening Commitment Form if your children plan to return to school.
MVHS New Bell Schedule
On Tuesday, February 16, 2021. All FCPs schools will transition to a new hybrid-learning, bell schedule. This change in our bell schedule is the first step in our return to school plan. It will take some time to adjust to this new schedule, please take a moment to review it as a family.
A few key things to remember are:
- There is a slightly later start time to accommodate arrival and check in procedures when we return to school.
- Transitions between classes have been reduced from 15 minutes to 7 or 8 minutes.
- We will no longer have an hour long lunch break for the entire school. Lunch will be determined by a student’s 5th or 6th period class. Students will learn which lunch period they have (A,B,C or D) from their teachers next week.
- Each school will have slightly different bell schedules designed to meet the needs of their school community. Below is the MVHS hybrid bell schedule:
Black History Month Celebrations
United Community is hosting events, challenges, and contests in celebration of Black History Month
Our theme for this year is: Remember Black: Legends of the Times. We are specifically targeting the past, the present, and the future; giving our youth an opportunity to reflect on the past, participate in the present, and empower students to become community leaders in the future.
