Key MS Families
We want to congratulate our newest National Junior Honor Society members who were inducted Thursday, February 4, 2021. The virtual ceremony was fantastic and we loved seeing so many Key MS families and staff members in attendance. Key is certainly the place the be.
New Bell Schedule Begins Tuesday, February 16th
As we prepare for students to return to in person learning in March, it will be necessary to revise the bell schedule to accommodate more bus runs. The number of students allowed on each bus will be reduced substantially to meet social distancing requirements. With fewer students able to ride a bus at the same time, FCPS must adjust the times that buses are transporting students. The school day will be reduced by 15 minutes due to the increased cleaning time required between bus runs.
A revised bell schedule has been developed to improve start times and end times for all levels. Barring any changes to the plan that may be impacted by the pandemic, the following bell schedule will be in place effective Tuesday, February 16th, for both virtual and in-person instruction.
- Middle School - 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- At Key Middle School, we will adopt the following new bell schedule beginning Tuesday, February 16th:

We will follow strict safety and health protocols to minimize health risks for students and staff. To learn more, visit here. Service to the Community
Engaging in service provides students with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service or volunteerism enables students to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as exposes students to different career opportunities for their future. These are some of the common benefits of participating in a community service program:
-
Psychological benefits: Volunteering increases overall life satisfaction and helps you feel good about yourself because you are helping others.
-
Social benefits: Volunteering engages students with the community, creates special bonds with the population being served, and increases social awareness and responsibility.
-
Cognitive benefits: Volunteering helps students enhance their personal knowledge, grow from new experiences, and develop better interpersonal communication skills.
We encourage all of our students to participate in service throughout their middle and high school careers. There are many opportunities that can be found at these websites:
Volunteer Fairfax
ECHO
Capitol Area Food Bank
National Archives
Students may log their hours in the X2VOL program through their Social Studies classes at Key Middle School.
