Dear Family Fairfax,
Happy Friday! As predicted, the snow didn’t really impact our school day much, but it did create a beautiful background for our learning and work. And, the snowmen in my neighborhood were going strong for days. I even saw a snow dog and snow child, too! It is amazing what a little ingenuity, human will, and determination can do!
On Monday, Dr. Tammy Hanna (Lanier Middle School) and I delivered our State of the Secondary Schools report to the City of Fairfax School Board. I have always enjoyed this opportunity because it allowed us to be reflective in our impact and intentional in our future planning. In case you are interested, here is a link to a recording of our presentation:

There are many things to celebrate from this week, but I would be remiss if I did not congratulate our REGIONAL GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. These amazing athletes flipped cartwheels around their competition this week. We are so proud of them as we send them to states! Another tremendous shout out to our Swim and Dive athletes. Times and Regional champions are included below as well.
For our Class of 2021, as seasons come to a close this year, so much of your year has been lost. Next week, we are planning a celebration on the 12th (details coming soon), and we are planning monthly activities for the remainder of the school year. I know many of our seniors are grieving the abrupt end to last year and the lack of community and opportunity to spend their final year with their classmates. We have heard that many do not plan to return in person, but we are all hoping to see you! Although we know everyone’s home situation is unique, finishing this school year with whatever semblance of togetherness we can will be so very special. It will be our special memory of an especially difficult year together.
We do have a couple of updates coming soon: I plan to offer parent and student town halls for Return to School during the week of February 22nd. We will have a new bell schedule that begins February 16th, so please be on the lookout for a communication from us next week about the updated bell schedule and lunch times. March 2nd is drawing near, and our plans are coming together!
Wishing you all the best,
Erin
15th: Presidents' Day
15th: Fall Sports Tryouts - Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf and Volleyball
16th: NEW Bell Schedule

Class of 2021 we miss you at Fairfax High School! The hallways are too silent, the lunch room too clean, the walls are too bare. We are missing your personality.
Friday, February 12, after 8th period put away your computers and join us at the high school for an hour of socialization on a Friday afternoon. Bring your attitude and your swagger back to the school. Come to the school and join us for some FREE snacks, camaraderie, music, socializing, rock painting (you can bring your own small rock if you want) and laughter as we celebrate the Class of 2021.
If you plan on attending, please sign up HERE so that we have an idea of the numbers. More information on where we will meet will be shared during the coming week. Stay healthy Lions.
If you have any questions, please email me at baplancich@fcps.edu

Tech Update
Did you know? To get the most recent updates on your FCPS computer, including the StudentDen icon, you can pull up to the nearest FCPS building (Elementary, Middle, or High school) and restart your computer. Once it reboots, you will want to log in, let it stay on the network for ten minutes (you can be using it during that time).
After ten minutes, you will want to Restart (not close the lid) so the updates will install.
If this doesn’t update your Student Den Icon for whatever reason, here is the direct link to the Student den.

Seniors - Cap & Gown Information
Cap and gowns are required for graduation ceremonies. If you have not purchased yours yet, it’s not too late but don’t wait too much longer as prices will increase. Below are the instructions for purchasing just a cap and gown. You may also choose to select other more expensive packages, if you would prefer. However ONLY a cap and gown is required to participate in the graduation ceremony in June.
Step 1: Go to www.Jostens.com and select Fairfax High School
Step 2: Scroll Down and Select “Browse All Grad Cap/Gown”
Step 3: Scroll to the bottom and select “Browse All Cap & Gown Products”
Step 4: Go to Individual Products and select Cap & Gown Unit. This will come with a FHS Class of 2021 tassel. You do NOT need to purchase a separate tassel.
If you have financial concerns about ordering a cap and gown, please let reach out to your counselor.
