Justice Newsletter - January 30

A Note from Principal Eck

Dear Justice Families,

At the January 22nd School Board meeting, Superintendent Brabrand provided an interim update on FCPS' plans to return to in-person learning. The plans will be discussed in detail during the School Board Work Session on Tuesday, February 2. See the proposed timeline for returning to in-person instruction.  The School Board work session can be viewed at 1:30 pm on the FCPS Cable TV channel 99 (Verizon Channel 11) and will also be live-streamed on the FCPS website.  Based on the proposed timeline, Justice has scheduled town halls for families and building tours for new to Justice students.

This week is National School Counseling Week. The theme this year is School Counselors: All in for All Students". National School Counseling Week hopes to focus attention on school counselors' unique contribution within US School Systems. School Counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students' academic concerns, post-secondary options, and social/emotional skills. School counseling programs help increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers, and administrators. School Counselors are integral to student success. Please reach out to your child's counselor if you have any questions, concerns or to share a kind word.

February is Black History Month.  This year’s theme at Justice is “The Black Family: Representation, Identity, & Diversity.”  Our Black Student Association and Justice staff are coming together to plan various activities to honor and celebrate our Black and African American students, families, faculty, and communities. Some of the activities include: two advisory-Den Time lessons, a social media campaign, trivia game, and a student-led after school virtual assembly..

As always, we are here for you and your family with needs you have. Please reach out to me or any member of our admin team.

The 2021-22 FAFSA Form Is Now Available; College Access Fairfax Is Here to Help

Parents of high school seniors—did you know that the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is open and most colleges require that the FAFSA be completed by March 1 to receive the maximum financial aid possible starting in fall of 2021? Some schools have even earlier priority deadlines, so check the individual college’s financial aid office website for deadlines. Parents and students should start by creating a FSA ID and then begin the FAFSA. Additional links can be found on the FCPS FAFSA website.

Need help completing and submitting the FAFSA? There are several College Access Fairfax recordings and virtual workshops available for viewing at the College Access Fairfax website. College Access Fairfax’s Financial Aid Champions also provide help completing the FAFSA. To request a one-on-one appointment, please email appointments@collegeaccessfairfax.org to request a personal session.

Please contact Alicia Grande, Justice's college and career specialist, at agrande@fcps.edu  for additional help.
