Student Transfer Renewals

Applications Open February 15, 2021

A student transfer is valid for one year only. A parent or guardian must submit a renewal application each year for student transfer consideration (SIS Parent Account required). A renewal application may be submitted for students who continue to meet the same student transfer criteria as indicated on the original student transfer request. For students no longer meeting the same student transfer criteria, a new transfer request must be submitted.

For detailed information regarding the new renewal process, please view the Student Transfer Information website.

FCPS Discontinuation of Temperature Checks

Effective January 22, 2021, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) discontinued required daily temperature checks for students, staff and visitors. This decision was based on:

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not currently recommend schools conduct symptom screening for all students in grades K-12 on a routine (e.g. daily) basis.
  • Symptom screening will identify only that a person might be sick, not that the person necessarily has COVID-19.
  • Accuracy of thermometers is limited in extreme temperatures

The CDC recommends that parents, caregivers or guardians, should be strongly encouraged to monitor their children for symptoms of infectious illness every day through home-based symptom screening and students who are sick should not attend in-person instruction.

While FCPS will no longer be requiring daily temperature checks at bus stops and upon arrival in FCPS facilities, students, staff and visitors will still be required to continue to compete a daily health screening.

Any student, staff or visitor demonstrating symptoms of illness should stay home to help “Stop the Spread” of COVID-19.

Health Screening Commitment Form Required Prior to Student Return to School Buildings

As students return for in-person instruction, parents/caregivers will be asked to acknowledge a Health Screening Commitment form before their student(s) return to school buildings. This document confirms that a parent/caregiver/ guardian will complete a daily health screening and will keep their students home when they are ill.

The Health Commitment form can be submitted electronically through ParentVUE (PVUE) or via hard copy. Please contact our main office to obtain a hard copy of this form if needed.

art supplies

Greetings from the Art Room

Gunston Students will  be creating COLLAGE ARTWORKS (cut and glue paper art).  We began working with collage materials this week.

Please make sure your child has their own personal art supplies to work with during Art class through the months of January and February.  They will need the following supplies, and the supplies should be kept in a bag for use during each weekly art class.

  • Construction Paper (variety of colors)
  • Child Size Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Sketchbook of white paper (the same book/paper they have been using for drawing)
  • Bag to hold all supplies/cut papers together between art classes

*NOTE: A small baggie of construction papers was given to each student with other supplies during laptop distribution at the beginning of the year.  Scissors and glue sticks are on the student grade level supply list.  The local dollar store also carries supplies.  If you are still in need of supplies, please contact Mrs. Gorham at ahgorham@fcps.edu.

Thank you so much!
