CLOTH MASKS/FACE COVERINGS: UPDATED CDC RECOMMENDATIONS

Masks are a simple barrier to help prevent your respiratory droplets from reaching others. Studies show that masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth.  CDC continues to study the effectiveness of different types of masks and updates the recommendations as new scientific evidence becomes available.

As we start to think about in-person learning, please ensure that your students have appropriate masks/face coverings for school and that they practice wearing them during long periods of the day.  Students will be required to wear masks over their mouth and nose during the school day.

The following cloth masks/face coverings are NOT supported by FCPS:

  • Gaiters with a single layer - NEW
  • Face masks/face coverings with exhalation valves/vents
  • Cloth masks/face coverings with a single layer - NEW

The following cloth masks/face coverings are acceptable and supported by FCPS:

  • Gaiters with 2 or more layers - NEW
  • Cloth masks/face coverings with 2 or more layers – NEW

Please refer to the following resources for detailed information: Your Guide to Masks.
