Clermont is sponsoring a canned food drive to benefit Koinonia, an organization which distributes food to families in our community.

Donations are accepted during the month of February. A collection box will be placed at the front of the school, either outside the front door or right inside the vestibule.

Canned fruit, beans, soups, tuna and vegetables are needed. No glass containers please.

Thank you for showing you CARE for others.

Students Make Great Strides in PE and Health!

A hearth jump-roping with the words "Love your heart" at the top

Second quarter was packed full of healthy mind and healthy body lessons. Students danced their way through topics such as naming and managing stress and emotions, in addition to disease prevention and stopping the spread of germs! All applicable topics for today. Moving into the third quarter, the focus will be on staying active and eating healthy, with a little jump rope fun. Check out this great resource for families that incorporates many of the above topics, in our quest for wellness. Families can certainly join the fun in applying PE lessons to real life. And what a great opportunity to practice heart healthy behaviors during the Heart Health Month of February! Don’t forget to wear your red on Friday, Feb. 5th!

School Picture Day for Clermont Students

Picture Day is Wednesday, February 3! If you have participated in school pictures before, the process will be a little different this year. Pictures will be taken by family this year instead of by class. If you would like to have your Clermont students photographed, please click here to sign-up for a time slot your family. If there are no available sign-ups at the link, please email lmgibson@fcps.edu for scheduling. Parents may order photos at www.mylifetouch.com using picture day ID: EVT6BG86D (This code is good up until 24 hours after picture day.)

Pictures will be taken in the Clermont cafeteria from 9:00am – 3:00pm, at your designated time. You will enter through door #2, which is at the cafeteria near our Kiss and Ride loop. We have safety protocols in place that must be followed before you can enter the building. Everyone present will need to wear a face covering at all times. At the exact time when the student is being photographed, the photographer will have the child take their mask off and hold it down where it will not be seen in the photo. We will send a link the night before for you to answer some health questions online. If you do not receive the email, or forget to answer the questionnaire before coming, we will have a QR code at the door that you can scan with a mobile device and complete onsite.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Lisa Gibson at lmgibson@fcps.edu or Coral Mullin at cjmullin@fcps.edu or by phone at 703-921-2400.

Digital Citizenship Tips from Common Sense Education

Help Kids Balance Their Media Lives

From phones and tablets to streaming movies and YouTube, tech and media are everywhere. Kids love easy access to shows, games, and information. Parents and caregivers love that kids can learn on the go (and stay busy when dinner's cooking). But it's easy to overdo it when the phone never stops pinging and the next episode plays automatically. Families can keep media and tech use in check by following a few simple practices.

Check out these 5 tips

  1. Create screen-free times and zones. Help kids take breaks from tech by limiting screen time in bedrooms, during study time, or at the dinner table.
  2. Try parental controls. Set content limits that make sense for your family. Alongside conversations about healthy media habits, use features such as content filtering, privacy settings, and time limits offered by the apps and platforms your family uses to help manage access and exposure to media.
  3. Establish clear family rules. Decide together what kind of media and tech is OK -- and when it's OK to use it. A family media plan can help get everyone on the same page.
  4. Watch and play together. Choose quality, age-appropriate media to enjoy with your kids. Visit commonsensemedia.org to find shows, games, and more.
  5. Help kids identify healthy behaviors. Practice talking about feelings -- both physical and emotional -- during screen and non-screen activities.
