Volume 4, Issue 19; January 25, 2021
Dear Flint Hill Family,
Today marks the beginning of the third quarter, and as our teachers complete progress reports today and plan for future instruction, Mrs. Hoak and I want to take a moment to reinforce the importance of continuing to support your children as independent thinkers and learners this year.
Our teachers understand the challenges virtual learning presents, especially for some of our most ardent students who want to demonstrate success online as much as they do in-person. In the spirit of helping your children learn and grow, please allow them to independently engage in "productive struggle" and to document their own thinking. When we answer for a child, we are stealing their struggle--and while your child may make more mistakes than if you help them, they are also building resilience when they are allowed to fail forward.
Productive struggle allows for assessment, intervention, and feedback--three ways our teachers can evaluate your child's academic, social, and emotional progress.
Progress reports will be mailed home to families on the 29th of January. Information will be available in the Student Information System (SIS) on January 30th. Thank you for continuing to support your child on an as needed basis, and not to the detriment of our teachers being able to fully assess individual, and independent, thinking and progress.
Warmly,
Dr. Jennifer Hertzberg

Band and Strings Perfromances
Since things are a bit different this year, our students missed an opportunity to perform in a winter concert this season. As such, they created a “Flipgrid Performance” to share with the school! The students were asked to share whatever song or musical excerpt they would like, and performances range from popular winter tunes to songs from students’ favorite TV shows!
We are very proud of all that the students have created and wanted to share this link with the school so that everyone can see our students’ hard work and progress!
