Attendance Matters!

Attendance drives everything! It is tied to almost every aspect of school performance and future outcomes. Please visit the Falls Church High School website attendance page for updated policies and procedures.

A note about Monday attendance:

Please remember that while there is no bell schedule on Mondays, attendance is still required. Students are responsible for logging in to their 4th period/Advisory teacher’s Google Classroom and completing the Google attendance form posted by the teacher between 8:10 a.m. and 11:10 a.m. in order to be marked present.

Consider these important facts about attendance:

  • Your children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days. That can be just one day every two weeks, and that can happen before you know it.
  • Some absences are unavoidable. We understand that children will get sick and need to stay home occasionally. The important thing is to get your children to school as often as possible.
  • Sporadic absences, not just those on consecutive days of school, matter. Before you know it, just one or two days a month can add up to nearly 10 percent of the school year.

Avoid absences unless absolutely necessary!

Falls Church Academy wins 2020 Best of the Web Award

Falls Church Academy  (Click here to view)

Jill Burrer, curator, and Bill McGreevy, administrator. Burrer’s site is highlighted by the way she spotlights her courses. In addition to engaging photos, videos, and slideshows, each course links to its instructor’s profile page, which has a bio that highlights their experience in their field. Her career experiences page helps students find both current opportunities to start their career and postsecondary plans for their continued studies, scholarships, and more. "Our Academy relies tremendously on our website to share the amazing features of our program," said McGreevy. "The website not only serves as an important informational hub, but also as an amazing recruitment tool for our future Academy students.

PSAT Opportunity for 10th Grade Students in April

In April, Falls Church High School tenth graders will have the opportunity to take the Preliminary SAT 10 (PSAT 10). General information about the test is available on the PSAT 10 testing update webpage, and we will share more specifics about PSAT 10 testing in the coming weeks. Final testing decisions will be based on health department guidance.

Students with disabilities who have testing accommodations documented in a 504 Plan or an individualized education program (IEP) may be eligible for testing accommodations on the PSAT 10; however, the College Board must approve a formal request for each student. If the student already has College Board accommodations approved from a previous PSAT 10, SAT, or AP test, then no further action is needed. The PSAT Accommodations Process webpage provides additional information, including accommodations input and consent forms.

English learners (ELs), as defined by state or federal policy, are eligible for testing supports on the PSAT 10. Unlike accommodations for students with disabilities, EL supports are temporary and can only be used on the test date for which they have been requested. The PSAT EL Supports Process webpage provides additional information, including accommodations input and consent forms.

To request new College Board accommodations and/or temporary EL supports, parents and guardians should return the corresponding input and consent forms to the school by February 12, 2021

If you have questions about PSAT accommodations or testing supports, please contact us at masuqi@fcps.edu.

When returning input and consent forms for accommodations or EL supports, deliver to:

Booster Athletics

Revenue from both ticket sales and Booster memberships (that normally provide entry into events) help to fund athletics at FCHS. As you watch a game on livestream or if you get to attend an event in person, we hope you’ll consider a donation to the FCHS Athletic Boosters! There will be donation boxes located at the entry to events and you can also click on the QR code to donate.  For those of you following this, we were supposed to now be allowing limited spectators for all levels, but last week FCPS switched gears (due to COVID) to only allowing 25 spectators at just the Varsity level events. Spectators have to use a sign-up for admission and go through COVID protocols. There are no walk-up spectators allowed. The QR code is attached. It goes to this URL: https://fchs-jaguar-athletic-boosters-club.square.site/donate .
