A Message from the Principal

This week we came to the end of 2nd quarter and our first semester, a semester of virtual learning unlike any other in history. Truly this week has been like no other as we celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr and watched as our 46th President took office while this pandemic continues to have such an impact on our daily lives and our children's education and social-emotional development. It is hard to believe that this time last year we were just beginning to hear about Covid and the possibility of this virus reaching the United States. As vaccines begin to roll out and we continue our work to get our students back into their classroom with their teacher, I remain optimistic that better days are ahead. I can't thank you enough for your unwavering  support and dedication to being collaborative partners alongside our teachers.

This past week, our FCPS leadership team and School Board developed and approved a new return to school timeline. We have some important steps to complete prior to returning our students and will communicate with you along the way. I will be working on finalizing class lists with teachers to balance students across the Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday/Friday attendance. There are a couple of upper grade classes where balance could be better and we hope to work with families to improve loads. Our goal is that each section can be as small as possible. If you have changed your mind and wish for your child to stay virtual instead of returning face to face, please email me to share your decision. Any requests from virtual to return hybrid to the building will be added to a wait list and we will consider each and every one, but please understand this may not be possible.

The updated dates of return to the building are as follows:

Kindergarten - February 23rd

1st and 2nd grade - March 9th

3rd - 6th grade - March 16th

On Tuesday, I will hold two Principal Coffees to share information on return to the school building. I welcome your feedback on this year as well as questions  we can address during our parent coffee. Feel free to complete this form at your earliest convenience.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our Tuesday Principal's Coffee and remain a collaborative partner in supporting your child(ren) in their education and social development.

Most Sincerely,

Stacy Kirkpatrick

WE HOPE TO SEE THERE

Playground Update

The new playground is installation is ready for play! You are encouraged to socially distance and wear masks when playing with friends to comply with CDC guidelines. Parents are encouraged to bring hand sanitizer to clean hands after play.

There are a few items that will need further work as the weather warms up, which includes a top coat on the wheelchair accessible area. When this work is completed it will be fenced off to protect the area and ensure the coating is cured before play and new handicapped accessible swings will be installed. We will notify you of this work completion.

With our community, all things are possible! Thank you for your support of the PTA so things like this are possible for our children. You can join the PTA or donate to our Chipmunk fund at anytime to support wonderful projects like this.
