Principal's Message - 1/16/21

Stone MS

Good Morning Parents and Families:

It was a busy week as our students engaged in their last full week of classes in the second quarter. I am excited to share that our website was one of six FCPS schools honored with the “Best of Web” award. A huge congratulations to Alison Costanza, our SBTS, for her tireless dedication to ensure our website looks so wonderful. You can find information about this award here

As we continue to provide pertinent information as it relates to Return to School and academic advising for next school year, please refer to our website for updates and celebrations. This is a unique week with no school on Monday and Wednesday, so I want to remind you of the calendar.

Thank you for your continued support.

School Supplies

2nd Semester Class Supply Pickup & School Photos - TENTATIVE

Parents or guardians of students who will take the following courses in second semester: Art, Family & Consumer Science, Technology and Engineering, and World Language will have a supply pickup on Monday, February 8. Please note: this is a tentative date.

In addition, if any student had their school photo taken at Stone MS on December 7 or 8, they can pick up their photos during this same supply pickup date. We will send out a finalized date and time later this month with specifics pertaining to pick up procedures.

If you have any questions, please email Phil Hudson at pahudson@fcps.edu.

Survey

Student Survey

Students in 7th and 8th grades will take a Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions during Panther Block on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Students will receive instructions and the link to the survey from their Panther Block teachers.

The purpose is to measure student support, student engagement, school discipline, and safety conditions in each school. The Virginia School Survey becomes a tool to guide instructional practices that provide support for all students in Virginia’s schools.

If you have specific questions regarding this survey, please email Ellyn Bowman at esbowman@fcps.edu. If you are interested in opting-out your student from participating in the survey,  please contact Armando Garcia at AGarcia1@fcps.edu.

Academic Advising

Parents of 8th graders (Rising 9th graders),

All 8th grade students met with Westfield HS counselors and staff this week during the Academic Advising presentation (also posted in Student All course in Schoology) and Electives Fair with Westfield teachers on Friday.  Westfield HS curriculum information can be found here: https://westfieldhs.fcps.edu/student-services/virtual-curriculum-night

All course materials for students in current grades 6,7,8 are posted on our Stone Academic Advising Google Site for your reference.  Stone school counselors will be meeting with 8th grade students, individually, during their HPE classes, beginning January 26.

Here is what you/they can do to prepare:

  • Review course materials here (scroll to the bottom of the page)
  • Talk and discuss course selections with your child
  • Begin to make these selections in Student SIS, or they can wait to do it with their counselor’s support
  • Email Tami Stubblefield at TLStubblefie@fcps.edu questions or your child’s school counselor

Semester 2 Schedules

Students who have semester electives may have a schedule change for Semester 2.  All students will be mailed their new paper schedule in the US mail and will have an opportunity to review their new schedule in Student SIS on January 22 with their Panther Block teacher.  Students will not see their new semester courses in Schoology until Monday, January 26.

If your child needs support with their schedule, they can email their school counselor or message them in Schoology for assistance.  You can also email TLStubblefie@fcps.edu Tami Stubblefield, our DSS, for assistance.
