Academic Advising for the 2021-22 School Year

Boys Varsity Basketball

Wow!  What a great week the Varsity Boys Basketball Program experienced!  We had Senior Night and also walked away with three wins to give us a 4 and 2 overall record (4 and 1 in the Patriot District!)

The week started at West Springfield on Monday night. Devin Cuviello was our high scorer of the night with 18 points, four of those from the line. Andre Pacheco had 9 points and Alex Klein had two three’s for a total of 6 points. Moe Raff, Sinneh Bangura, Anthony Meaders, and Brady Lencz accounted for the rest of the baskets we saw on Monday night. The Cavaliers continue to show strength in offensive and defensive rebounds with 13 and 18 respectively. Moe Raff, Brady Lencz, Andre Pacheco, and SInneh Bangura lead the rebound numbers with Abdul Ahmed, Xavier Barry, Devin Cuviello, Alex Klein, and Anthony Meaders all getting their hands on the ball as well. It is always good to win away from home!

Wednesday night was Senior Night for our seven seniors and what a great night it was!  The Boys Varsity Cavaliers walked away with a 64-30 win. Alex Klein was our high scorer of the night with 16 points!  He was running hot with 3 three’s, 3 baskets, and a shot at the line. Rubeel Acheckzai and Abdul Ahmed  were our number 2 guys Wednesday night with 9 points for each on the night!  Moe Raff, Xavier Barry, Devin Cuviello, Sinneh Bangura, Anthony Meaders, Brady Lencz, Jack Gallagher, and Andre Pacheco earned the rest of our points for the night. Brady Lencz also demonstrated strength at the basket with 7 rebounds total!  Way to go Senior Cavs and Congrats to Rubeel, Abdul, Xavier, Devin, Anthony, Moe, and Charlie. Class of 2021, we love you!

Friday night we met the Fairfax Lions on their turf and we walked away with a 51-41 win! Alex Klein and Andre Pacheco were our high scorers with 14 and 13 pints respectively. Moe Raff, Abdul Ahmed, Sinneh Bangura, and Anthony Meaders also added to the Cavs’ score. Brady Lencz continues to dominate with the rebounds for a total of 9. Great job boys for another great win away from home.

We salute all of our Cav Senior Swimmers and Divers this week. Congrats and thank you for all they’ve done to represent Woodson and the Cav Community!

Varsity Rifle

On Saturday, January 16, the Woodson Rifle Team competed in their second of four matches this season.  Due to the pandemic the season looks very different.  Instead of shooting 3 x 10 matches where they shoot prone, standing and kneeling; they are shooting 40 shots standing.  Additionally, the matches are being run tournament style, putting them head to head against all the teams in the league each Saturday.  Generally, Woodson has 26 athletes participating in matches, but due to restrictions only 6 or 7 athletes can represent the school per match. For the second Saturday in a row Woodson rifle team placed first.  On Saturday, January 9, Captain Nate Werhlen led the team shooting a 387. Captains Meredith Ivey and Tori Kopelen joined Nate in the top 8 individuals for the meet.  While Junior Joe Stefanski also supported the scoring team's victory.  Senior Logan McBurney and Junior Rose McClelland represented Woodson rifle at this first match of the season as well.  On Saturday, January 16, Woodson rifle once again placed first as a team.  Freshman Ben Hays led the team to victory shooting a 389.  Captains Nate Wehrlen, Meredith Ivey and Tori Kopelen joined Ben in sealing their victory, and all four members of the scoring team placed in the top 8 as individual shooters.  Senior Joe Hall, Juniors Victoria Cross and Kyle Barron also represented Woodson at this match.  The off-season captain talks, led by Tori Kopelen, and conditioning by Coach Cliff have paid off as the Woodson team continues to hold strong despite a shortened practice season.

Watch all of Woodson's HOME athletic events on the Woodson Broadcast Studio channel on YouTube. AWAY contests are streamed on the host-schools’ YouTube channels.
