Coach Kenneth Wood

Lake Braddock JV Boys Lacrosse

It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform our community of the passing of a beloved husband, father, coach, and mentor in Kenneth Wood. Kenneth Wood coached JV Boys Lacrosse at LBSS over these past four years.  He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma, a terminal brain cancer, in October 2018. The prognosis for this disease was 12-18 months, with only about 5% surviving up to 5 years. Kenneth went through 2 brain surgeries, 2 rounds of brain radiation, and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, all while working full time and coaching our Bruins.  Unfortunately, he lost his battle to cancer on Friday, January 8th.  More information regarding funeral arrangements and where to send condolences can be found at this website: https://www.fairfaxmemorialfuneralhome.com/obituaries/Kenneth-Granville-Wood?obId=19590075&fbclid=IwAR1t_rxQGvCedKxZ5IwAbpJKZPcgBJo50x_S-CjUq59ik4fQOgkYzRNmJo0#/obituaryInfo.

We know that coaches can have a significant impact on the students with whom they work. Because we know that athletes, including your student, may be grieving this loss our counselors and school mental health team are available to provide support.  Their information can be found on this website: https://lakebraddockss.fcps.edu/high-school/student-services/staff. Additionally, the Dougy Center for Loss and Grief offers this handout to support grieving teens.

We want to thank Coach Wood for his dedication to our Bruin family and offer our sincere condolences to his family. #LBLaxFam
