Vienna Elementary Receives State Award

VES has earned the Virginia Board of Education Continuous Improvement Award.  This award has been bestowed upon the school for significantly improving academic and school quality indicators for each of the past three years.  Vienna has demonstrated the following: an increase in the academic achievement of all students in reading and mathematics; an increase in academic achievement for two or more student groups in reading and mathematics; and an increase in attendance.  Congratulation to the students, staff, and parents of Vienna Elementary!  Working together we can accomplish great things.

Supporting Your Children in Math:  A Webinar for Families

FCPS Announces Open Enrollment for Dual Language Immersion Programs

Fairfax County Public Schools’ online registration for the county-wide lottery for Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs will open on Monday, January 25.  Current prekindergarten students may apply for the kindergarten immersion program and current kindergarten students may apply for the first grade immersion programs for the 2021-22 school year. 

The kindergarten DLI programs are available in Korean and Spanish. Korean is available at Powell and Spanish is available at Bailey’s Primary, Fort Hunt, Lake Anne, Laurel Ridge, London Towne, and Rose Hill Elementary Schools.  First grade DLI programs are available at 12 elementary schools and are offered in French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

Information Meetings Start on January 13

Parents who are interested in the DLI programs in FCPS are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming informational meetings. All meetings are held virtually. Information regarding virtual meeting access will be made available on the Dual Language Immersion registration site by the day of the meeting.

Welcome to Vienna Elementary School

We're excited to welcome our newest Vikings for the 2021-22 school year!

To join us, first determine if your student lives in the Vienna ES boundary by viewing the FCPS boundary locator

If your student does live in the Vienna ES boundary, here is information about the process:

At this time, registrations will be completed virtually via email.  Please prepare the following documents and email our Registrar, Darleen Ham, at dkham@fcps.edu.

  • Registration packets can be found here https://www.fcps.edu/registration/forms.
  • Copies of proof of residency in the form of a deed or a lease can also be sent virtually.
  • The Virginia School Entrance Health form, a part of the registration packet, must be completed by a medical professional and include a physical examination conducted within a year of enrollment and a copy of up to date immunization records.
  • For Kindergarteners, completion of the Pre-Kindergarten Experience Form is required.  The form can be found here, https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/media/forms/se228.pdfPlease be sure to check both sets of boxes.

Original documentation of the child's birth certificate and enrolling parent photo ID will need to be brought in person before the start of the school year

All forms need to be signed in order to move forward with the registration. If you can't scan the forms, you can sign them in a PDF reader or you can bring them in person to your appointment along with your original documents. 

While we can not see what’s in store for us in the future, we are hopeful that with: a vaccine; a reduction in community spread; and mitigation strategies, we can have a return of students back into the building.  Please help us open and keep open our doors by getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, washing hands, and maintaining social distance.  Together we can and will get through this!

Warmline Available to All Virginians Struggling to Cope

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused upheaval and unexpected stress in the lives of so many people. To support Virginians, the VA C.O.P.E.S. (Compassionate, Optimistic, Person-Centered, Empowering Support) warmline is available to offer support. The mental health tip line started in May 2020 and, thanks to new funding, the service will be extended through May 2021.

Any Virginian can make a confidential call and speak to a crisis counselor about what is bothering them. The line is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM and on the weekends from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Free support is available by phone or text at 877-349-6428. Spanish counselors are also available.

The warmline is available to residents who may be struggling to cope with the effects of the pandemic including isolation, fear, grief, and anxiety. Not only will callers be provided a supportive compassionate ear, but they will also be provided additional information, resources, and referrals as needed. 


Tell Your Friends:  FCPS Needs Classroom Monitors

FCPS is hiring classroom monitors to provide in-person classroom assistance for students when some staff members continue to work virtually. Please share the job description with family members and friends who may be interested, and encourage them to apply today. Vienna ES is in need of a classroom monitor for a fifth grade class and a sixth grade class.

Vienna Elementary School Playground, Blacktop, and Fields - Important Information

Starting Tuesday, November 17, the Vienna ES playground, blacktop, and fields are closed during the school day as we have larger groups of students returning to school.  They are closed from 8:15 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.  Thank you!
