Dear Mount Vernon Families,

This year our students have had to endure a global pandemic, distance learning, social injustice, and now political unrest.  As parents/guardians, we know that you, too, have questions and concerns and may be in middle of processing your own intense emotional reaction to these unprecedented events.   To help provide some clarity and transparency, we wanted to take a moment to update you on our response as a district and school community to the events that took place on Wednesday afternoon in our nation’s capital.

  • Wednesday evening, Dr. Brabrand shared FCPS’s Statement on the Violence at the U.S. Capitol with all families.
  • Principal Rogers followed up with MVHS staff offering processing time, additional instructional resources, and suggested guidelines for engaging with students after a crisis. The suggestions ranged from providing structure and predictability in times of crisis and uncertainty to seeking additional support for students via their school counselor, social worker, psychologist, or other trusted and qualified adult.
  • We have also reached out to our FCPS Region 3 Equity team to develop a professional development session for staff on Monday and a Major Time session for our students on Tuesday.

Every Mount Vernon family brings with them their own unique set of values and beliefs.  As you process these events with your family’s values and beliefs at the core of your discussion, please know that our entire Mount Vernon staff (administrators, clinicians, counselors, and teachers) is here to support you.  In addition to the resources shared by Dr. Brabrand, this resource includes tips for helping children by age group.  And as another reminder, here is a link to our Students Services Staff contact page for access to school counselors and the MVHS Staff contact page for access to our school clinicians.

Sincerely,

The MVHS Administrative Team

Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment Form – Now Available in PVUE 45 Days Before In-Person Return

The Health Screening Commitment form will now be available in PVUE for In-Person students 45 days prior to the student’s first day of in-person instruction, instead of 14 days prior to their return. This change has been made to allow schools more time to collect the Health Screening Commitment form acknowledgements in PVUE well in advance of their return.

The student’s start date entered in the SIS Return to School tab on the Student view will trigger the acknowledgement form to appear in their parent(s)/guardian(s) PVUE account. The PVUE acknowledgments will be automatically updated in SIS every 15 minutes. At least one parent/guardian must acknowledge the commitment once prior to their child coming In-Person. If a student has been In-Person and returned to virtual, their parent/guardian will not have to submit the Health Screening Commitment acknowledgment again.

If the parent/guardian does not have a PVUE account, a paper form can be signed and the acknowledgment entered manually into SIS. Schools will access the form and all translated versions at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/student-health-and-safety-guidance-document. When returned, staff will update receipt of the information on the Return to School tab. More information on how to enter this can be found here under Covid-19, Student In-Person Day.  A quick find can be done to identify whether the commitment form has been acknowledged for the In-person students arriving.

Designated school staff will identify and run a daily report via SIS to identify and monitor those students whose parent/guardian have not submitted the commitment form. School staff will contact the parents/guardians of all students who have not returned the Parental/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form to communicate this requirement until all forms have been received.  Students whose parent/guardian have not returned a signed the Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form will be required to complete a health screening and have their temperature taken daily by school staff until the form is received.

If you have any questions, contact Amy Bailey at abailey@fcps.edu  or via phone at 571-423-4582.
