Health Commitment Form

All Parent/Guardians are being asked to acknowledge and complete this one-time commitment to health screening so we may be prepared as students are phased back into in-person learning. FCPS will be communicating directly with Parent/Guardians prior to the child's anticipated start date.

ATES LIBRARY BOOK checkout information and instructions

happy reading

Use the library catalog to place a hold on books you want.  Log in to the catalog properly and place a hold only on books that are listed as “IN.”  Here is a video that shows you how to do this.  Students: be sure your parents know you have placed holds, so they can make sure they are picked up and returned according to the schedule below.

Just before the next pickup date, you and a parent should receive an email indicating which of the books that you put on hold were checked out and available to be picked up.  If you want to check this for yourself, log in to the library catalog then select “checkouts” from the main menu pull-down list (select the 3 bars icon at the top left of the catalog screen.)

Books can be returned and new ones picked up at the main entrance of the school at the following days and times:

Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 3:30-6pm and Wednesday Jan. 13 from 8am-12:30pm. Be sure to place your holds by noon on Monday, Jan. 11: there is NO LIMIT, so get plenty of books to enjoy!

This will take place every 2 weeks.  Upcoming dates and times will be announced.  Remember, holds must be placed no later than the Friday before the pickup day.

For younger students, parents are encouraged to place the holds: again, there is a tutorial video to show you how.

And there is much more you will want to explore—including many sources for ebooks, audiobooks and online read alouds--in the Library’s Reading Resources Google SiteA link to this can always be found near the top of the Library page of the ATES website and clicking the “Reading Resources” button.

Poe Middle School Transition Events for 2021

  • Virtual Curriculum Night February 4th- Curriculum information and materials will be posted on our Poe website for our 5th grade students and families to review asynchronously (on your own).  We will host a synchronous (live) presentation on February 4th from 7-8pm with the Administrators, School Counselors, After School Program Coordinator, and Parent Liaison.  We will have sessions in both English and Spanish.
  • Online Course Catalog - The online course catalog is available on the school website
  • Academic Advising and Course Selection- In February, elementary school counselors will provide an academic advising lesson to students virtually (pre-recorded by Poe school counselors). Students will fill out a Google form (which replaces the traditional paper course selection form) to select their classes for 6th grade.  Students are encouraged to select courses based on teacher feedback, progress in current courses, academic strengths, and personal interests. Elementary school counselors are available for individual academic advising to discuss the student’s course selections and answer any questions they may have.
  • Virtual Parent Coffees- Please join us with your students to ask any follow up questions in February and March during our virtual parent coffee meetings:
    • February 17th from 4-5pm (English)
    • February 18th from 4-5pm (Spanish)
    • March 10th from 7-8pm (Spanish)
    • March 11th from 7-8 pm (English)
  • All course selection Google forms are due February 26th.

We are looking forward to a successful transition to Poe!
