Providing students and parents with the important updates and report of events happening at the LMS.
Message from Principal Erbrecht
Dear Families,
You may have heard that the school board paused Return to School Plans. We communicated with you yesterday about a change in bell schedule that is also now paused. We will continue following our previous bell schedule next week and until further notice. I do want to make you aware of changes to the calendar in January that are necessary as a result of the pause on return to school (see below).
Thank you for your continued support and patience!
Stay Well,
Adam Erbrecht

Mr. Christopher Kestyn
A local newspaper, The Sun Gazette, has written a lovely piece about all that Mr. Kestyn had accomplished as a teacher and coach over the years.
With the permission from his family, we have shared that article, as well as his obituary for families to view below.
Mr. Kestyn was loved and will certainly be missed here at Liberty and in the FCPS community.

Hello 2021! New Year, New Goals for Success!
Hello 2021! It’s a new year and a time for hope and new beginnings. Whether you are setting new goals for the year or revising old ones, making goals together as a family benefits our children. Children learn about self-discipline and the value of making goals. Consider these two approaches when setting your resolutions: start small and be kind to yourself.
Start small. Be realistic when making goals. Create goals that have small increments to help mark accomplishments. Make different goals that are age appropriate for your children. Model for your child. You and your family may resolve to sleep better. You may consider pledging to improve your sleep by reducing the amount of time that you stare at screens before bedtime. The blue light emitted by screens on cellphones, computers and televisions may disrupt the ability to fall asleep. The goal maybe to turn the devices off 30 minutes before bedtime. Set the goals as a family.
Be kind to yourself. If you stray from the goal, let go of any negativity. Revise the goal and try again without guilt and shame.
If you notice that your child lacks focus and motivation in school life, register for the webinar: Zoomed Out? 5 Strategies to Get Even the Most Reluctant Kids Focused, Engaged, and Motivated: A Webinar for Families. The webinar is offered by the FCPS Parent Resource Center and will be presented by Ann Dolin. Ms. Dolin is an educational consultant and award-winning author. The webinars are January 7, 2021 from 6:30-8 p.m. or January 8, 2021 10 – 11:30 a.m.

Tema: ¡Hola 2021! ¡Año nuevo, nuevas metas para el éxito!
¡Hola 2021!

EXTENDED SCHOOL ABSENCE AND/OR TRAVEL OUT-OF-THE-COUNTRY
During virtual learning, it is still important and necessary for parents/guardians to notify Liberty Middle School if planning an extended absence for their student and/or traveling out-of-the-country. You must contact Jasmine Washington, School Office Assistant, at jwashington1@fcps.edu before you travel, and she will assist you with completing the Prearranged Absence form.
Your student will be given assignments from teachers that they will complete during their absence. Please be aware that connectivity issues may arise when attempting to use the FCPS laptop that the student was issued. If this does occur and the student is unable to sign on to classes, the FCPS Policy of 15-days of consecutive absence from school will result in withdrawal from Liberty. Once the student returns, they will be re-enrolled into their courses with the same schedule.
At the time the Prearranged Absence form is completed, and your travel location is noted, you will also be informed as to whether your student will be required to have a Tb test upon return. If you have any questions, you may contact Jenni Carnahan at jscarnahan@fcps.edu.
