Providing students and parents with important updates and reports of events and happenings in the middle school.
Calendar Reminders
As Superintendent Brabrand shared recently, the plan to bring students in Groups 1-5 back into school for in person learning is currently paused. Community transmission of COVID-19 in Fairfax County remains high. Dr. Brabrand will provide an update on the Return to School plan to the School Board on Tuesday, February 2.
Because we will not be transporting students to school during the pause in our plan, we will not be moving to the new bell schedule on January 12. We will continue to use the current bell schedule and communicate any future changes to the bell schedule in advance.

January 19 - Blue synchronous day
January 20 - HOLIDAY
January 21 - Blue synchronous day
January 22 - Gold synchronous day; 2 hour early release (NO LS)

Service Learning Opportunity
Fairfax County Public Schools encourages students to find ways to safely participate in service learning. Even during COVID-19, students are finding incredible ways to serve their communities either virtually or while practicing social distancing and following CDC guidelines. The upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend is a great opportunity to help connect students with impactful service opportunities while also teaching students about the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.
In an effort to connect student service learning with the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.’s work, FCPS and Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is teaming up with Volunteer Fairfax for a weekend of service. Beginning on January 16, 2021, Volunteer Fairfax is organizing a family friendly event that will provide service opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in activities virtually from home. To learn more about the MLK Jr. Weekend of Service and the specific service activities, please visit Volunteer Fairfax’s website for more information at: https://www.volunteerfairfax.org/events/martin-luther-king-jr-weekend-of-service/

Current 7th and 8th Grade Student Course Selection
A message from Ms. Frank, RMS Director of Student Services.
We hope you all enjoyed taking a look as the electives during LS last week If you haven’t had a chance to see the videos, they are still live and on our website, using this link. The course selection sheet is a worksheet for students to use between now and when they will meet with their counselor in February. The course selection sheets and course catalog can be found on the Robinson webpage or by following this link.
In February, you will be meeting with your counselors to discuss your course selections. Please keep your course selection sheet handy and consider your electives thoughtfully. Make sure you are choosing electives based on YOUR interests. In a few weeks, students will receive a google form to their fcpsschools account to enter their course selection choices. We ask that all students complete the google form so that we are able to help support the students through academic advising. When the students meet with their counselor, they can ask questions about specific classes and options. Please make sure students are prepared for that meeting. Again, that meeting will be in February.
So, in summary: Use the Course Selection sheet as a worksheet - do not email it to your counselor. Students will receive a google form link to their fcpsschools account to enter their course selection choices later in January. In February, they will meet with their counselor to discuss their classes.
