PRINCIPAL DAUGHERTY

Dear Beech Tree Families,

As 2020 comes to a close, I want to thank each and every one of you for making our #BeechTreeFamily such a strong, unbreakable partnership, which models perseverance, forgiveness, understanding, and hope for all of our children. I am proud to serve you each and every day and am incredibly grateful to you for your trust and support.

As we close our Beech Tree Office and all of our laptops, too, to be present for those we love most, here are few things we might all enjoy doing outdoors in our beautiful state: https://www.virginia.org/outdoors

When we return in the new year, here are some dates to remember:

Teacher Work Dates:

Monday, January 4th

Monday, January 11th

*Asynchronous Assignment will be provided for students so that teachers may plan and prepare for in person instruction.

Beginning on Tuesday, January 12th both our virtual and in person instructional schedule will take place between the hours of 10:05 in the morning and 4:50 in the evening, as part of concurrent instruction. Students will remain assigned to their homeroom teacher.

In-Person Return to School Dates:

Tuesday, January 12th = Enhanced Autism, Preschool, & Kindergarten

Tuesday, January 19th = 1st & 2nd Grade

Tuesday, January 26th = 3rd & 4th Grade

Tuesday, February 2nd = 5th Grade

No School:

Monday, January 18th: MLK Day

Wednesday, January 20th: Inauguration Day

Friday, January 22nd: Early Release

Monday, January 25th: Teacher Work Day

The new instructional schedules will be shared in January 2021, so we can make necessary adjustments. As a reminder, if you selected for your child to return to school in person, you were emailed the two days a week they were assigned: Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday/Friday. I tried to match up siblings and found it to be a bit more difficult than expected. If you found that your children are not assigned the same days and you preferred for them to be assigned the same days, you were invited to reach out to me, copying my administrative assistant, Esther Baca, at ebaca@fcps.edu with your request. I will continue to try my best to accommodate your family’s needs.

If you were unable to join us for our Beech Tree PTA Annual Sing Along last week, here is the link to our #BeechTreeFamily submissions: https://flipgrid.com/+btsingalong . Thanks so much to Kiri Cooper, our talented Music Teacher, and Megan Laboy, our unstoppable PTA President!

As a reminder, our amazing Art teacher, Greg Skrtic, has been both our SCA and Patrol Sponsor for the last few years and he wanted to share a message I know our #BeechTreeFamily will want to be a part of:

“Normally at this time of the year our Beech Tree Student Council is hard at work organizing our annual Holiday Food Drive.  Many of our BT families are provided weekend food bags from a local food bank, Food for Others and, in the past, we have donated the proceeds from our food drive to them to return the favor.  If you are thinking about donating to a charity for the holiday season, please consider a cash donation to https://www.foodforothers.org/ . There is even a place to dedicate your generous donation to Beech Tree Elementary, or anyone/thing of your choice.”

As always, I thank you for your trust and support! Reach out if you ever have any questions or concerns at kddaugherty@fcps.edu.

Sincerely,

Karim Daugherty

Principal

Library Curbside Pickup

Available on Mondays from 1-3pm and Wednesdays from 8-12:30pm. Students need to place their holds in our catalog by the end of the day on Fridays. Students can place up to 5 holds.  Here is a link to our catalog. Please remember that you must log in using your username and password.  This is the same information you use for logging onto your computer. Once a hold is placed, I will check out the items and send an email about when you can pick up your items.  Emails will be sent to the Students’ school email account for grades 3-5 and parents email for K-2. If you would like the email sent to a different account, please contact our Librarian, Tina Britton at clbritton@fcps.edu. Books will be placed in a large manilla envelope with the student’s name on it.  The envelopes will be placed on a table outside the front door. Students will pick up their envelope and be on their way.  Ms. Britton will be sitting in the lobby monitoring the pickup. Please place books you are returning in the box.  Put your envelope in the other container.  Books will be quarantined for one week before they are checked in. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Tina Britton at clbritton@fcps.edu with any questions or concerns.
