Bell Schedule Update #16

Wishing you a wonderful and healthy holiday season!

A message from Principal, Amy Miller:

Dear Kilmer Community,

Thank you so much to the PTA and the entire Kilmer community for showing your appreciation of the Kilmer Staff with the December gift card appreciation. Despite the cold rain on Monday, the PTA participated in our drive thru appreciation so our staff could receive their gift cards. Thank you for your generosity and support. It means a lot to us!

During the Thursday, December 10th  School Board Meeting, Dr. Brabrand presented the “Return to School Update,” which included updates to when staff and students will return to the building. The proposed dates are January 26th for seventh grade students and February 2nd for eighth grade students. Please note these dates are tentative and subject to change. In addition, the presentation included a proposed change in bell schedule. Since the presentation on December 10th, FCPS worked to improve the proposed bell schedule times. As shared in an enotify sent earlier today, the middle school start and end times will be 7:30-2:00 starting Tuesday, January 12th. We will be adjusting the transition times so that no class instructional time is lost with this change. We will send out the updated full day schedule soon. The School Board is meeting again on January 5, 2021.We will share with the Kilmer Community any decisions that are made following this meeting.

I hope the winter break brings everyone a chance to rest, relax, and recharge. Please take care of yourselves and each other. Be safe!

Sincerely,

Amy Miller

Principal

Asynchronous Mondays start January 4

As we prepare to return students to the building we will be transitioning Mondays to full independent learning days starting Monday, January 4. On Mondays, students will engage in asynchronous work assigned by their teachers. Starting January 4, students will no longer attend the PAWS Advisory class on Mondays. However, we are mandated to take attendance on Mondays so every student will need to login into his/her PAWS Advisory Schoology Site and complete the Google form that will be posted in the banner. We ask that students do this by 9:30 AM.

Winter Break Is December 21 to January 1, 2021

As a reminder, this year winter break starts on December 21 and ends on January 1, 2021. Synchronous classes will resume on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Monday, January 4, 2021, is an asynchronous independent work day for students.

What’s on the Shelf: News from the Kilmer Library

If your family needs books over winter break, don’t forget about the Fairfax County Public Library! All FCPS students have LEAP accounts at the public library, making it easy to check out up to three print items at a time for 6 weeks each. A student only needs their name, not a physical library card, to check out materials and LEAP accounts NEVER charge fines or fees. More about LEAP, including information in Arabaic, Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

And if you’re looking for fun family activities over break, check out Escape Room Kilmer! We’ve pulled together a bunch of free digital escape rooms from around the web -- choose one, work together, solve clues and escape!
