Franklin Families,
As we head into the Winter Break, I want to thank all of you for your support and partnership this year. Our staff is extremely grateful that Franklin MS is located in such a wonderful community. This has been a school year unlike any other and we appreciate the very important role you have played.
In the weeks ahead, there will be a lot of information shared about the Return to School plan. I have included some key updates below and we will host a Return to School Information Session on January 19.
I would like to share my sincerest wishes to all of you for a safe, healthy, and enjoyable next two weeks. While some of our traditions may look a little different this year, it is also an opportunity to create new memories. I hope that all of our students and families have a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

Return to School Updates
FCPS division leaders will be sending several updates in the coming weeks. For your planning purposes, I wanted to share the following information with you. These updates will be in place at all middle schools throughout FCPS.

The Franklin MS school day will be adjusted to 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM and this change will go into effect on January 12. Our start time has remained the same, but our school day finishes 15 minutes earlier.

FMS students will have asynchronous instruction days on January 4, 11, 19 & 21 to support Return to School planning for our staff. Teachers will provide independent learning activities for our students on these days.
- FMS students that have selected in-person instruction will return for the hybrid model at the end of January. 7th graders are scheduled to return on January 26 and 8th graders are scheduled to return on February 2.
Academic Advising and Course Selection for School Year 2021-2022
Oakton High School Counselors will meet synchronously with current 8th graders (Rising 9th graders) during Falcon Time from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM on January 8, 2021, and Chantilly High School Counselors will meet synchronously with current 8th graders (Rising 9th graders) during Falcon Time from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM on January 13, 2021.
High School Counselors will present information to students about course options and provide information on high school sports, clubs and other activities. Franklin Middle School Counselors will be meeting with students individually or in small groups to review course selections and provide academic advising from mid-January through mid-February.
In addition, Chantilly HS will host a virtual Curriculum Night on January 7, 2021 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Oakton High School will be posting a pre-recorded 9th Grade Parent Presentation for rising freshmen parents to view in January. They will also provide an opportunity for a live Q&A for our rising freshmen families. Dates and Times will be announced when we return from winter break.
We will be sharing additional academic advising information for our current 7th graders after winter break.
Library Updates
Thank you again to all of the students and family members who have come to Franklin to pick up library books so far this school year. We will continue the curbside service in January and hope to see even more students. Have a wonderful winter break and keep reading!
Lifetouch Proofs and Picture Packets Available for Pickup
Students who were photographed in November have Lifetouch proofs and picture packets available in the office for pickup. If you have already placed an order online for school pictures, you do not need to pick up the proof packet. Please ring the doorbell at Door 1 between 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM to pick up your packet. Please note that the office will be closed the week of December 21 - 25 and on December 31 - January 1. Parents and guardians may contact the Lifetouch Customer Care Center with any questions at:1-800-736-4753.
Franklin MS 2021 Yearbook
Franklin MS 2021 yearbooks are on sale through April 19, 2021. The cost of the yearbook is $25. Families may order online by clicking here. Our school order number is 5330. Please contact Kelly Barlow with any questions.
Franklin MS After School Program
The After School Program staff would like to wish the Franklin community a wonderful, safe holiday and happy New Year. After School Activities will resume on Monday, January 4th. We look forward to working with you in 2021!

Franklin MS Office Hours During Winter Break
Our school office will be closed the week of December 21-25, and will reopen at 7:00 AM on Monday, December 28.
The office will be open December 28 - 30 from 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
We will be closed December 31 - January 1, and will reopen at 7:00 AM on Monday, January 4, 2021.
