What's Happening at Mount Eagle December 11, 2020

This is our annual Winter Sing Along when we're in the building. So how do you keep the tradition going online? See directions below from our music teacher, Mr. Medina. We hope all families can participate as we create a video to share across the community.

Return to School Updates

Dr. Brabrand presented the latest information and timelines for students to return in-person to our schools. Please keep in mind that we are in a dynamic situation that is changing daily. At the next school board meeting on Tuesday, January 5, we will have more information about whether we move forward with bringing students back for our half-day model (Families who chose in-person would have their child attend 4 mornings; families who chose online would have their child attend online 4 afternoons.)

In addition to the cases per 100K and positivity rate, there is now a third metric that relies on how well schools are using safety strategies such as mask-wearing. This is what the school board will discuss on January 5.

These are DRAFT dates for return of in-person students:

Group 5 PreK & Kindergarten   Proposed Return Date               January 12

Group 6 Grades 1 & 2               Proposed Return Date               January 19

Group 7 Grades 3 & 4 only        Proposed Return Date              January 26

Group 7 Grades 5 & 6 only        Proposed Return Date              February 2

Please go here to see the COVID data that FCPS uses to determine school opening & closing:

We will continue to keep you updated. While it's not 100% certain that will begin bringing students back on January 12, it's important that we are all ready for this possible change. Your flexibility and all the steps you and your family are taking---wearing masks at all times, especially when going outside your home and maintaining social distancing, no travel---are greatly appreciated. This is difficult time, and the more we engage in safe practices, the sooner we can return to school.

This Monday at Mount Eagle:

Library Check-out plus Head Start, Grade 4

If your child is in Head Start, Grades 4 and Ms. Katie's or Ms. Hoge's class, please plan to stop at school on Monday between 8am-3:45pm. There are important supplies for your child.

All are invited to come check out library books from 10am-12noon with Mrs. Daly. This will be the last time to get books before the winter break. Reading books is a perfect way to get off the screen and to continue to build important reading skills.

Winter Sing Along: We Need You!

One of our great Mount Eagle traditions is our Winter Sing Along. We will still celebrate it, but, of course, in a new format. For our last school day before Winter Break, the Mount Eagle family would like to broadcast a pre-recorded Holiday Sing-Along featuring the students of MEES!

There will be two ways your child/family can be featured:

  1. Singing Video Mash-Ups: Students have the option of being featured in a video of kids singing a few of their favorite holiday songs from home.
  2. “What do the Holidays mean to you and your family?”: There will also be an opportunity for students and families to record a video response about what the holidays mean to them.

Instructions:

  • Visit your child’s Music Google Classroom.
  • Click the Classwork Tab at the top.
  • Look for a section called ‘Holiday Sing-Along Flipgrid’ and click the link found inside.
  • Click on the Flipgrid Topic of the song your child/family want to participate in.
  • Submit a video recording!

Thank you all very much for your participation in this project. It is greatly appreciated.

If your child would like to be a presenter, please complete the following:

  • Send an e-mail to dmedina@fcps.edu with the Subject Line “Student Presenter”
  • Please include your child’s Name, Grade, and Teacher.
  • He will respond back with a copy of the script for your child to read.

Slow Computer? Stop by School

There have been new updates pushed out to your child's FCPS laptop. That means that the computer may be running really slow. What can you do? Just stop by school anytime and restart the laptop. You don't have to leave your car. Make a plan to do it over winter break so that you're ready to go on January 4th.
