Forestdale teachers and staff continue to deepen their skills with new technology, including Pear Deck software that the school was able to purchase using Title I funds. Pear Deck is an add-on for google slides that allows educators to add interactive questions and formative assessments to their presentations; thus, increasing opportunities for engaging learners, honoring student voice, and using assessment data to plan next instructional steps. Students and teachers continue to have fun and learn together!
Group 3 to Potentially Move to Virtual Instruction Next Week
Communication was sent yesterday on behalf of the FCPS' Superintendent's Office to families of students in Group 3 explaining that current health metrics in our region are trending in a direction where it may soon become necessary for students in this group to return to virtual instruction. At Forestdale, Group 3 includes students in our Enhanced Autism program as well as English Learners (ELs) who participate in Monday morning English Language Development. Yesterday FCPS learned there was a backlog of data posted to the Virginia Department of Health website and that this metric exceeded 10% on Sunday, December 6. If this trend continues for the next two days, Group 3 students will return to virtual instruction beginning Monday, December 14.
Save the Date: Falcon Family Fun Night Jan. 28
The Forestdale Family Engagement Committee is excited to invite you to our very first virtual Falcon Family Fun Night on January 28, from 6:00-7:00 pm!
On the last Thursday of each month, families can come together to experience activities together with their favorite Falcon staff. Our first night will focus on literacy; we’ll be sharing stories for all age levels, from the fun to the fascinating! Come hang out with us in one of our variety of themed rooms, including Mo Willems, Harry Potter, graphic novels, and more! We can't wait to see you! (see attached flyer, too).
We look forward to family and student voice helping us plan our next Falcon Family Fun Night (see below)!
Family Members Wanted on Family Engagement Committee
This year, Forestdale established a Family Engagement Committee, whose purpose is to connect and support our families and continuously strengthen our family-school partnership. This committee, which is currently composed of teachers and staff that meet from 12:30-1:30 pm on the first Monday of each month, is looking for parent, guardian, and family representation. If you are interested in joining this committee or supporting Forestdale’s family engagement efforts, please email Jenny Cunneen, principal, at jmcunneen@fcps.edu.
Thank you in advance for your continued partnership and support!
