A Note from Dr. Goodloe
Dear Rocky Run Families and Students,
What a wonderful week! Our staff worked with students Thursday and Friday of this week to implement two school-wide catch up days. Teachers provided small group and individualized support to promote student success and allow school time for work to be completed. Students and teachers reported great success over these two days. We will implement two catch up days each grading quarter.
Kindness Calendar - December 2020:
As we embark on the a very different December this year, I encourage all of our Rocky Run families to consider the suggestions in the Do Good December Calendar (above). Each of us can make a difference in the life of another by spreading kindness. Accept the challenge!
November Students of the Month:
It was my pleasure along with Assistant Principals Mr. DeRusso and Mrs. Sciabica to recognize our November Students of the Month in a Google Meet session. We continue to be so proud of the way our students Raise the Ram in all that they do.
Winter Break - Break from Assignments:
FCPS practice that it is a true break for students, staff and families. No assignments due or major assessments the first two class days after break.
Holiday Gifts:
If you would like to recognize a RRMS staff member with a thank you this holiday season we encourage you to share a personal note through their fcps.edu email.
Celebrations in our Community - Hanukkah:
Hanukkah, which means “dedication” in Hebrew, begins this year at sundown on Thursday, December 10th. Often called the Festival of Lights, the holiday lasts for eight days and is celebrated with the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods, games, and gifts. We wish all of our Rocky Run families that celebrate a Chag Sameach (Happy Holiday)!
I welcome your feedback, suggestions and questions. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Sincerely,
Amy Goodloe, Principal

Safety Visits
Fairfax County Public Schools has implemented new Safety Teams to help the school district monitor each schools’ adherence to five mitigation strategies for COVID-19. These teams, consisting of FCPS staff members and retirees, will conduct random onsite spot checks, deliver education and resources, and report data back to administrators.
The five mitigation strategies are set forth in the Centers for Disease Control’s Indicators for Dynamic School Decision-making guide, and include proper use of masks or face coverings; social distancing; hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette; cleaning and disinfection; and contact tracing in collaboration with the health department.
More information on FCPS Safety Teams is available online.

Parent Digital Tool Permission Application
In an ongoing effort to protect student data, FCPS is required to secure parental permission for student use of software/applications for which FCPS does not have a confidentiality agreement. An online process has been developed to collect this information digitally and provide school-based reporting. This process has been designed to meet the legal requirements for authenticating parent identities under FERPA.
Please complete the digital tool permission application if you have not done so. This form was included in our beginning of year forms.
Thank you!

Positivity Project - Other People Matter
Knowing my words and actions affect others
On an individual level, our words and actions impact our relationships with other people. They have the power to lift others up or teach them down. But, our words and actions also impact ourselves. If I am consistently speaking or acting with an entitled, arrogant, or mean attitude, I'm going to find it tougher to tap into and exemplify the character strengths of gratitude, humility and kindness.
When a group is comprised of individuals who are thoughtful about their words and actions, individuals who show respect and consideration for the people around them, we're likely to have a happier and healthier culture.
