We know that students and families often look forward to giving teachers and other staff gifts for the holidays, and our virtual school environment is making that a little trickier this year. If your family is looking for a way to deliver a holiday gift to a teacher or other staff member please make sure it is clearly labeled with the recipient’s name and drop it off during school hours or material’s distribution.
Classroom teacher gifts should be placed in the labeled teacher bins in the lobby. Gifts for any other staff member can be dropped off in the office and our amazing office staff will place it in their mailbox. Thanks in advance for the generosity our community always shows our faculty and staff – during the holiday season and throughout the year!
Students in grades K-6 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher. Students in Kindergarten through grade three receive instruction in an emotional and social health unit. Students in grades 4-6 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit. You are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. Please look for an email from your child’s teacher the week of December 14th with additional information and the meeting link.
Parents/guardians who do not wish to have their child participate in FLE instruction may choose to opt their child out of any or all of the lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more lessons, you may access the opt out forms online at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle. If you have already indicated your desire to opt your child out of FLE lessons by using the form provided earlier in the school year, you do not need to complete another form. Should you opt your child out and then later decide you want your child included in FLE instruction, you must notify your child’s teacher in writing before instruction begins.

Family Fun Bingo Night!
Kick off Winter Break with a good old fashioned Family Fun Night! On Friday, December 18th, the Colin Powell PTA will host an online Bingo Night for the whole school! Our virtual BINGO Night is the perfect opportunity for the entire family to have fun, and potentially win lots of prizes to enjoy this winter. Prizes will be distributed to winners the first Monday in January on pickup/drop off day in your student’s bin.
