Note from Administration

Dear Parents,

We hope that all of you enjoyed the Thanksgiving break.  We included the 'thankful' pictures shared with us!  We appreciate your continued support of the virtual instruction.   We do have students coming in for testing and have contacted each family individually.  Please do note that you should complete the health questionnaire  for your child in order for all to remain safe.

We are looking forward to spirit week that begins the week of December 14th.  Please have your child participate and join in the fun!  Note that the teachers will be joining in as well!  For the door decorating contest, any door will do!  It could be the refrigerator door, your child's bedroom door - the options are endless!! There will be recognition for several categories.  Check the calendar for spirit week below! Email your entries to Gardenskent1717@gmail.com.

A firm reminder to restart your child's laptop in order to keep it updated and running efficiently. This restart is very important for updates to run and to ensure that your child's microphone and audio work.

Note that it is Computer Science week.  We have included links for your child to explore or continue with the Hour of Code.  Enjoy!

Below are the links that will update all with respect to the return to school information.

Warmly,

Holly McGuigan, Principal

Computer Science Week !

We live in a world surrounded by technology. We are using it every day.  And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.

But only a tiny fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 35% of all high schools teach computer science. That’s why our school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 7-11). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that Kent Gardens is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. Students can share what they are doing during their hour of Code at home.  Anyone can do it!

Students can access these activities anywhere. The link to get started is on the Kent Gardens Website.  See  https://hourofcode.com/us/learn for details and activities.

Spirit Week - December 14th - 18th

Plan ahead and enjoy participating in the upcoming Spirit Week!  Teachers will be participating as well!!  We will recognize the Door Decoration contestant winners! The Staff Sing Along will take place in the morning news show. Please do participate and remit pictures to Gardenskent1717@gmaill.com. We look forward to a great week!

Yearbook - We Must Have a Yearbook for Memories!

In order to have a yearbook and share our memories, please do share your pictures at this email address, kgyearbook2021@gmail.com.  We will work hard to compile into a 'memorable year!!  Note we cannot have the 'live' feature. We have already compiled a collection from our other pictures that you have shared but we are sure that you have more!

Positivity Project: Knowing My Words and Actions Affect Others

This week, we are working on ONE of the FIVE overarching components of the Positivity Project. Knowing that everything you do and say can affect others and your relationships with them.

“Solid character will reflect itself in consistent behavior, while poor character will seek to hide behind deceptive words and actions.”

                                         ~Myles Munroe

Often times, knowing something and acting like you know it doesn’t line up with each other. For example, you know that your words and actions impact other people, but your behavior doesn’t always show that understanding.

What does it look like to KNOW that your words and actions impact others?

Support Share of McLean this Holiday Season!

The holiday season is a time of thankfulness, celebration, and love. Sadly, there are many hungry local families, children, and seniors in need. This year, the need is even greater than usual.

Please consider supporting SHARE of McLean this holiday season. Share, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation providing emergency assistance since 1969 in McLean and nearby areas of Northern Virginia. SHARE is collecting Target and Walmart gift cards to distribute to clients. (Suggested donation amount is $25, but all donations are appreciated.)

To participate, visit the SHARE Wish Tree in the McLean Giant. Families can purchase Target gift cards and turn them in to customer service. You can also drop gift cards off to the box in the Kent Gardens front office through December 11, 2020.

To learn more about SHARE and other ways in which you can help, visit their website. Thank you so much for your support in helping our neighbors in need. We truly are #strongertogether.

Giving Thanks!
