I hope every member of our community had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Extra time with family with beautiful weather was just what I needed to relax and rejuvenate.
Last week, Lemon Road was able to support 24 families with $150 of groceries from Safeway for the Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you Mary Anne Nealson for applying for and being awarded the Nourishing Neighbors grant this fall to make this possible! We are grateful that we were able to provide this to our families in November and hope to offer a similar support for our families over the holidays.
Each winter, our staff and community help support families in the Lemon Road community with donations of food, clothing, and gifts for children. This year, we have partnered with The Foundation for FCPS to provide a contactless way for families, community partners, and staff to contribute to our collection. It is our goal to support our families in need both with groceries and a gift card to support clothing or gift purchases. Please consider donating any amount to our fund. You can access our direct link here. Thank you for a donation of any size! If you or a Lemon Road family you know is in need of holiday support this year, please let us know by reaching out to Fran Lewandoski (School Social Worker) at FCLewandoski@fcps.edu.
Finally, this afternoon from 4:00 – 5:30 and next Monday at the same time, cleaned coats from our coat swap will be available in front of Lemon Road. Any Lemon Road family in need is welcome to stop by and choose a coat for the winter. Be sure to also stop at the back of the school to select library books for your child to read at home.

This week, Lemon Road Lions will be learning about kindness as a part of the Positivity Project. Kindness means you are generous and you enjoy doing good deeds for other people. Kindness has been a foundation of moral and spiritual life across cultures and religions throughout history. This character strength is grounded in the belief of a common humanity in which others are worthy of care, attention, affection, and compassion. Aristotle defined kindness as, ”helpfulness towards someone in need, not in return for anything, nor for the advantage of the helper himself, but for that of the person helped.”
