Inclusive Schools Week

More information about Inclusive Schools Week in FCPS can be found here

Dear Woodburn Families,

It has been a great week with our wildcats!  As we begin the countdown to winter break we know that our students may be experiencing increased fatigue with online learning.  We have movement breaks built into our instructional day where we encourage students to move and take a break from their laptop.  We know that your child may need additional breaks throughout the day and appreciate your support in deciding when this is needed. If your child will be taking an extended break please be sure to communicate this with your classroom teacher.  As always, the social and emotional health of our students is our number one priority and we are here to support you in anyway we can.

Sincerely,

Katy Richman, Principal

Bridget Louder, Assistant Principal

Inclusive Schools Week

Woodburn Celebrates Inclusive Schools Week December 8-11th! It is an annual international celebration sponsored by the Inclusive Schools Network (ISN) and Stetson & Associates, Inc.. This year, the theme is “The Time for Inclusion is Now!”

Since its inception in 2001, Inclusive Schools Week has celebrated the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference, and other factors.

This year’s topics are neurodiversity, cultural diversity, family diversity and activism, highlighting P2- Other People Mindset: Knowing my words and actions affect others.

It wouldn’t be a celebration without a Spirit Week!

Mystery Library Book Bags for Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Library Book Mystery Bags for Kindergarteners and First Graders will be ready for curbside pick-up on Monday, December 7 from 12:00-3:45!

Our kindergarteners loved the library mystery bags they received at our last supply distribution! We are doing it again and expanding it to include all of our first grade wildcats. Each student in kindergarten and first grade will get a bag with 3 books to enjoy! Please return the books from the first mystery bag when you come to Woodburn!

Students in 2nd-6th grade: Continue putting books on hold using the Destiny online library catalog system. You will get an email notifying you when your books are ready to be picked up. We have our curbside library pick up every Monday afternoon.

We can’t wait to see you!

Virtual Gingerbread Decorating and Winter Sing-Along, December 15th

Gingerbread house making is one of the PTA’s most popular events! We are not giving up on it this year. Instead, we will send supplies and instructions and assemble on zoom. Please join us on December 15th to make gingerbread houses and sing some favorite winter songs like Frosty the Snowman and Let it Snow. Students will submit photos of their decorated houses and we will pick a few winners to be announced on the morning new show.

You can pick up gingerbread making supplies from the store, or sign up to pick up a kit from the school by filling out this form. Kits will include instructions, frosting, graham crackers, and candy to decorate. Gingerbread supplies will be available on December 12th to pick up from 9 to 10 am at the school.
