WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

front of school

  Positivity Project: Kindness

Kindness is grounded in the belief of a common humanity in which others are worthy of care, attention, affection, and compassion.  Kind people think about the needs and feelings of other people, and then act to help those people. An individual with the strength of kindness helps others because it’s the right thing to do, not because they expect any reciprocal treatment or gain in reputation.

Giving Tree Gift Card Drive through December 16

In the spirit of giving, Wakefield Forest is hosting a gift card drive to support our families in need.  We are collecting gift cards for the upcoming holidays in  December. We are accepting gift cards from local stores; Target and Walmart are great choices, as are Giant, Safeway, Food Lion, or other local grocery stores.  Gift cards can be dropped off at WFES through December 16, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm.  Please press the buzzer outside of the front doors, and we will be happy to come and get your donation.  Thank you for supporting our community!

School Building

Would you like to be a Room Parent?

The PTA is committed to working with the Wakefield Forest ES teachers and staff to support our students and their families as we navigate the challenges and uncertainties of this school year.   Wakefield Forest ES prides itself on fostering a strong sense of community and we want to continue that dedication even as most are still learning virtually.  As part of this commitment to community, we are looking for a volunteer or volunteers from each classroom to serve as a room parent/class liaison.   This role would involve being the classroom point of contact/liaison between the teacher, school, PTA and classroom families as well as working with other grade level parents to coordinate activities which promote school/grade unity. To learn more about the role or to volunteer, please contact PTA Room Parent Coordinator, Megan Fay at megmfay@aol.com

Classroom Monitors

As a part of our return to in-person instruction, our school will require classroom monitors for positions with staff approved to remain virtual. If you would like more information about the position, please review the job description and qualifications online and apply if interested. Please feel free to share information about this opportunity with anyone else you think may be interested.

Substitutes

Are you or somebody you know interested in substitute teaching with FCPS? Apply here or attend one of our Friday information sessions to learn more! To sign up for a session visit our substitute information page here.  We are anticipating shortages with in-person substitutes.

  Library News

We are continuing to offer curbside book pick up for all WFES students!

After today's pick up, the next two pick up days will be Wednesday, December 9 and Tuesday, December 15. Here’s how it works.

  • Students may put up to 5 books on hold for pickup.
  • Students may also request additional books or fill out a form to request a “mystery bag” of books chosen for them by Mrs. Rapuano.
  • Please see this link for all the details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qpOs8zofqJXdalZIY-IAC3UeP4A6rMzP/view?usp=sharing (you must be logged in to your child’s FCPS Google apps account to access the link). This flyer is also available on all the specials Google Classrooms.
  • Emails will be sent to parents/guardians and to student Gmail accounts when holds are ready to be picked up and the day/date of the next pick up day. Please wait for this email before coming to school for book pick up.

Returning books

  • Library books may be returned to WFES on weekdays from 8:30am to 3:30pm. There will be marked bins outside the front door for books being returned.
  • Emails and printed notices were sent to the parents/guardians of all students who still have books checked out from last school year. If you received a notice, please return the books or pay the replacement costs ASAP.

If you have any questions about any library-related matters, please contact Mrs. Rapuano at alrapuano@fcps.edu.

  Technical Assistance (FCPS laptops only)

If your child is having technical problems with their laptop (for ex, microphone not working, screen going dark, etc.), please go to this site:
