WAKEFIELD FOREST ES WEEKLY MESSAGE

T

Dear Wakefield Forest Families,

From the entire Wakefield Forest Elementary school team, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are a grateful to have you as a part of our school community.

We were also grateful to be able to support many of our families with food donations for the holidays, thanks to the generosity of members of the WFES community. I appreciate our wonderful counseling team and our parent liaison for their help in collecting and distributing donations. We are also thankful to Debbie Dogrul Associates/Long and Foster Real Estate as well as The Church of the Good Shepherd for donating food items to our families.

We have now been experiencing impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic for eight long months. Based on the increasing numbers, we can see that this pandemic is not going to be under control for some time and we know this creates significant challenges for your family. It’s been heartbreaking to hear the stories of our children suffering from not being in school, missing their friends and family, or just the lack of “normal."  We are experiencing these challenges to varying degrees on both sides of the computer screen. We appreciate the grace you have afforded us as we continue to navigate the changing landscape of learning. Our partnership is one of the things for which we have continued gratitude.

We do not have additional information about the planned return to in-person instruction at this time. I will keep you informed as information is available.

Once again, happy Thanksgiving from the WFES staff.

Thank you.

Sharyn Prindle

Principal

   Important dates: Advanced Academic Program

Tuesday, December 1 is the close of the window (Sept 8-Dec 1) for parents to submit a referral form for their student to be screened for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV. The parent referral form, submitted to the school, is one pathway to have a student screened for AAP Level IV. Parents should not wait for an announcement of the second grade screening pool if they want to make sure their student is screened for AAP Level IV in the coming cycle. Parents of students in grades 2-7 will need to submit the referral form by December 1.

Referrals will not be accepted after December 1. For more information about AAP Level IV or the screening process, please visit https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs.

Mr. Tony Gray, WFES AAP resource teacher, can be contacted regarding these matters and other AAP related questions at Awgray1@fcps.edu
