Library News
Ravensworth is excited to be offering curbside book pickup for 2nd-6th grade RES students Monday, November 23, from 9:00 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. For this curbside pickup event, holds needed to be placed by Wednesday morning (11/18) at 8:30 am. Curbside pickup events typically take place every other Monday and are announced in class and in each grade level’s Google Classroom. Here’s how it works:
You can learn about curbside service steps here (you must be logged in to your child’s FCPS Google apps account to access the link). You can review how to place holds by watching this tutorial. *This information is also available in each grade level’s Library Google Classroom under the topic, “Curbside Service.”
When holds are ready to be picked up, an email will be sent to students in grades 3-6 and to the enrolling parent for students in grade 2. The email will contain a Sign-Up Genius link for parents to use to sign up for a time to pick the books up. Please wait for this email and sign up for a slot before coming to school for book pickup.
Returning books
- Library books may be returned to RES on weekdays, preferably from 8:00am to 4:00pm. There will be a labeled bin outside the front entrance where books returns can be dropped off.
- If you still have books out from last year, please return them ASAP. If you would like to know if your child has overdue books from last year, they can view their checkouts on their library account which is accessible by visiting the Ravensworth Library Catalog and logging in.
If you have any questions about any library-related matters, please contact Mrs. Sloan at jasloan@fcps.edu

Tuesday, December 1st is the close of the window (Sept 8-Dec 1) for parents to submit a referral form for their student to be screened for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV. The parent referral form, submitted to the school, is one pathway to have a student screened for AAP Level IV. Positivity Project
Trait for the Week of November 23rd is Gratitude
Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an acknowledgment and affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world. Gratitude is not about ignoring the negative aspects of life; it’s simply being aware of and thankful for what is good.

Parents and Teachers of Ravensworth
We know that this year has been challenging for everyone and that we are looking forward to a day when we can be together again as a community. It certainly goes without saying that 2020 has been most unprecedented; the activities the PTA usually has planned we have either had to cancel, postpone, or modify, but there is one event that our school holds very dear and that is the annual Scholastic Book Fair. Alas, due to COVID-19 parameters we have had to get creative with our Book Fair offering and have decided to offer our Book Fair with Barnes & Noble as our Host.
We know the kiddies will miss the in-school fun that usually comes along with the Book Fair, but this year family, friends, and colleagues across the nation will be able to support our school in-store and online with B&N starting December 1, 2020 until 11:59pm on December 5, 2020.
We encourage everyone who decides to visit a local Barnes & Noble to follow appropriate COVID-19 protocols like wearing face masks and social distancing. If you want to, we would love to see your family and your book purchase by tagging #ravensworth2020bookfairfun on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!
We have attached the following PDF for teachers:
Teachers will be encouraged to fill out a wish list and will share it with families via email so they know what books they are interested in having for their classroom.
Parents will drop these books off at the Ravensworth ES with the Teachers First & Last Name and Grade Level to ensure the Ravensworth PTA can coordinate distribution to the teachers respectfully.
Parents, please see the attached information on how to make purchases online and in-store at a Barnes & Noble near you!

Remember, you will need the Book Fair ID# 12603536 whether shopping online or in-store!

PTA Membership and Student Directory
…..YEA, A Student Directory!
Ravensworth ES is pleased to announce the use of Memberhub and the return of the Student Directory. Memberhub is a custom-made software for PTA’s that puts all our resources onto one platform. Best of all, Memberhub allows you to share your contact information with other PTA members and connect with other families in the same class and grade as your children.
To join Ravensworth PTA and become part of the student directory go to: https://ravensworth.new.memberhub.store/store.
There are two membership options plus an option to make an additional donation to the PTA. Please consider donating as our major fundraiser Run 4 Ravensworth was one of many great events that was cancelled last year
Family Membership: $20.00 (two adults) *
Single Membership: $10.00 (one adult) *
*A small processing fee will be added to each transaction
Only PTA members will be listed in and have access to the directory. Once your membership is processed you will receive an email with directions on how to set up your profile on Memberhub. If you need help setting up your profile email Karin Floyd at correspondsec@ravensworthpta.org.
