Reminders

Student Catch Up Days

FCPS has mandated that all schools have 2 “catch-up days” this quarter. This is a school based decision for the two dates. After collaborating with other schools, we have decided to schedule the days for December 10 and 11. The students are to check-in virtually and the teacher can be available for assistance. The students do not need to stay in the class and no new assignments should be given on those days. These are days to provide additional time to work on assignments.

Holiday Break Homework Guidelines.

Teachers and staff work extremely hard and spend a great deal of time to ensure that learning remains the core of our work. Our students work hard too! This includes synchronous and asynchronous hours to complete assignments and engage in school activities, including social-emotional learning, essential to a well-rounded education. As we approach the Thanksgiving and winter breaks, we will continue to uphold  the expectation that we support our students and families in finding a healthy balance between school work, and family time.

Our teachers agreed not to issue homework that students must complete over the Thanksgiving, winter or spring breaks.  Specifically, teachers have agreed not to assign homework or projects that are due on the two school days following each of these extended breaks.

This does not preclude teachers from assigning long-range assignments in the weeks before a break and tasking students to use their own time management skills to determine if they need to work during their holiday. Schools have agreed that these assignments should not be due immediately following the break.

Please remember the many challenges this year and remember to grant yourself the grace of having time over the holidays to spend time with family and loved ones.

  • Students should not be assigned work to complete over school breaks.
  • No work/major assessments should be scheduled immediately upon return from break.
  • The due dates of long-term assignments should not be scheduled immediately after the holiday break.

Student Activities Information

Sports and Activities -  Updated Information as of 11/17/2020

The county has moved to an online Registration process for all sports. Parents are now able to register their children of multiple sports and complete most of the paperwork online, including the concussion education.

This registration must be completed by all athletes regardless if they have already turned in paperwork this year. Just completing the registration does not make them eligible, it is a step in the process.

A copy of the physical will still need to be turned in to the Athletic Trainers and must be cleared by us before the athlete is allowed to participate. Physicals can be scanned and emailed to Chris Worrell (cworrell@fcps.edu) and is the preferred way or mailed to Chris Worrell, West Springfield HS, 6100 Rolling Road, Springfield 22152.

The links below are to the registration and help guides and videos if parents are having issues.

Please let me know if there are any questions or issues.
