A Message from the Principal

Dear Brookfield Families,

The Thanksgiving holiday is just a week away, and I’ve been reflecting on the many things for which I am sincerely grateful. I am thankful for dedicated and enthusiastic students, parents who encourage and support our learners, and skilled teachers who truly care about each child.  I am thankful for  our PTA and community who do all they can to make Brookfield Elementary a great place to learn every day.  I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have experienced over the past five months as the principal of Brookfield. I can’t thank you enough for your help, support, and flexibility during these unpredictable times.

I wish each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Ellen Mukai, Principal

Staying Safe at Brookfield

Thank you all to families and students staying safe with mask-wearing, physical distancing, and frequent hand-washing. Anyone who is sick--staff or student--needs to stay home. Everything you are doing to stay safe at home and in the community helps all of us.

Remember, if you want to visit us, you need to have an appointment. Please contact us at 703-814-8784 or email Sam Ok at sjok@fcps.edu, and we will be happy to schedule you for a visit.

First Quarter Progress Reports

First quarter progress reports are available through Parent Vue and are also being mailed to students’ homes. If you do not receive a progress report for your child by November 30th, please reach out to your child’s teacher.

Meal Pick-up 8am-12:30pm

New to FCPS Student Speech, Voice, and Language Screenings: Kindergarten through 3rd Grade

Per Virginia Child Find Regulations (8 VAC 20-81-50), students newly enrolled in Fairfax County Public Schools in kindergarten through 3rd grade must be screened in the areas of speech, voice, and language to determine if a referral for an evaluation for special education and related services is indicated. Screenings will be coordinated at each school by the assigned speech-language pathologist(s). Screenings may take place in-person or virtually.

Screenings for new to FCPS students in kindergarten through 2nd grade who are currently enrolled will be initiated the week of December 1, 2020.  Screenings for new to FCPS students in 3rd grade who currently enrolled will be initiated the week of January 4, 2021.  Students who enroll after their grade level returns to in-person instruction will be screened within 60 business days of enrollment.  Notice to families of the screening will be provided via Keep in Touch.

Parent Vue Account

This year more than ever, SIS ParentVUE (PVUE) is an essential tool for parents/guardians to keep up with their student’s attendance, progress report cards, and more. This will be the first quarter that we have offered a PDF version of the progress report.  Elementary school parents/guardians now have the option to “Go Paperless” for all report cards and progress reports.

Please take some time to log into your Parent Vue account here. If you have forgotten your password, click on “More Options” to reset or change it. There is a language option in the bottom right corner.

If you have not yet set up a ParentVue account, please email Mr. Feighery at kbfeighery@fcps.edu and request that he send you your activation code and instructions.

ALERT: Schedule Change for Library Curbside Pickup

Library Book Curbside Pickup is moving to MONDAY’s from 11:30 – 2:30 each week.

Advanced Academic Program Deadline December 1

Tuesday, December 1 is the close of the window (Sept 8-Dec 1) for parents to submit a referral form for their student to be screened for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV. The parent referral form, submitted to the school, is one pathway to have a student screened for AAP Level IV. Parents should not wait for an announcement of the second grade screening pool if they want to make sure their student is screened for AAP Level IV in the coming cycle. Parents of students in grades 2-7 will need to submit the referral form by December 1.

Referrals will not be accepted after December 1. For more information about AAP Level IV or the screening process, please visit https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs.
