FCPS Delays Additional Students Returning to School

The current health metrics for COVID-19 cases in our community now exceed the threshold to expand in-person learning. Therefore, we are pressing “pause” and will delay expanding in-person instruction to Group 5, which includes Early Head Start, pre-K, kindergarten, and select students who receive special education services, who were scheduled to return on Tuesday, November 17.

Currently, Group 5 students will not report before November 30th. We will keep families updated as we receive additional information. The decision to pause the return of the next group is purely based on health metrics. Click here to review the FCPS metrics used for the decision-making process for a group to begin in-person instruction and for a group to remain in in-person instruction.

More information about when Group 6, (first and second grade) will return to in-person instruction will be provided later.

Please note the following calendar changes:

  • Monday, November 23rd is an asynchronous/independent work day for students.  Morning Meeting will be held at 8:20 for all students in their class. Clubs will be held as scheduled and teachers may ask your child to attend a small group session.
  • Tuesday, November 24th is now a regular virtual school day for students.

FCPS COVID-19 Metrics

FCPS has launched a COVID-19 dashboard to share weekly COVID-19 cases that have been self-reported to the division. Data is updated weekly on Friday by 1 p.m. Any cases occurring after that time are reported for the following week.

This data should be interpreted with caution as it only reflects cases that have been shared with FCPS through self-reporting and may not be aligned to future epidemiological investigations. Case reports indicate the total number of COVID-19 cases self-reported to principals, administrators, and program managers. Reports were shared with the Fairfax County Health Department to initiate contact tracing.

Updated information is available on the FCPS website.

Advanced Academics Important Deadline

Tuesday, December 1 is the close of the window (Sept 8-Dec 1) for parents to submit a referral form for their student to be screened for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Level IV.

The parent referral form, submitted to the school, is one pathway to have a student screened for AAP Level IV.

Level IV Referral Packets for FCPS students in grades 2-6 are due electronically by December 1, 2020.

Parents should not wait for an announcement of the second grade screening pool if they want to make sure their students is screened for AAP in the coming screening cycle.

Parents of students in grades 2-7 will need to submit the referral form by December 1. Referrals will not be accepted after December 1.

Please visit our LTES Referral Checklist for important information and fillable forms, or the FCPS Advanced Academics site for more information. If you have any questions, please contact Lucy Zamora, AART, at lkzamora@fcps.edu.

Health Screen Form Commitment Form and Daily Health Screening

Parents or guardians who chose an in-school instructional option for their child will be required to complete a Parent/Guardian Health Screening Commitment form as students are phased back into in-person learning. The commitment form is available in EnglishAmharicArabicChineseFarsiKoreanSpanishUrdu, and Vietnamese.

Families can complete this form and return it to London Towne or it can be completed electronically in ParentVUE

This indicates your agreement and commitment to completing a daily health screening prior to sending the student to school and also to keep ill students at home.  This will help us keep all students safe.

We need you to complete this form prior to students returning to school.
