Woodburn News - November 20, 2020

Give Thanks

Dear Woodburn Families,

It has been a whirlwind of a week! We were sad not to welcome students back into the building this week and will be ready to go once it is safe to do so.  We will be sure to continue to communicate updates about our return to school plan as decisions are made.

One parent shared an article with us about managing disappointment that we have connected with over this last week.  Please know that we are here to support your family as we manage changes in our return to school plans and worries that might arise as cases of COVID increase across our community.  We hope you will reach out to us, your child's teacher, or our counseling team should you need additional support for your child.  These are challenging times and we are stronger together.

We are grateful for you, our Woodburn families, and will be thinking of all of our wildcats this Thanksgiving.  We wish you a safe and joy filled Thanksgiving, from our families to yours.

Sincerely,

Katy Richman, Principal

Bridget Louder, Assistant Principal

Accessing Lesson Recordings

At Woodburn we will be slightly changing how students and families can access recordings of lessons.  We will no longer be posting recordings on teacher Blackboard pages.  Instead, families will need to reach out to their child's teacher when wanting to view a lesson recording.  Recordings will be shared with families as requested.  Thank you for your support with this change.

FCPS Parent Workshops and Webinars

In collaboration with FCPS Behavior Intervention Services, the Parent Resource Center brings you a series of webinars. Full-Time Advanced Academic Programs, Grades 3-8 (Level IV)

Deadline for Referrals is December 1st

Screening is held for any FCPS-enrolled student who has been referred in grades 2 through 6.

A referral form may be turned in during the referral window ending on December 1, 2020. Due to the volume of files screened centrally for Level IV services, deadlines are strictly held.

The referral form is linked here and is available on the Forms page of the AAP Website - https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs-aap/advanced-academic-program-aap-forms

Level IV services are available for students in Grades 3-8 who are found eligible through a central selection process. Eligible students use curriculum from the AAP Curriculum Framework in the four academic subject areas on a full-time basis. Multiple criteria are reviewed to determine eligibility for all FCPS advanced academic services. The countywide central selection committee determines eligibility for full-time AAP Level IV placement. Screening for Level IV services occurs during specific screening cycles:

Additional information about the holistic screening process and information used for screening can be found at https://www.fcps.edu/registration/advanced-academics-identification-and-placement/current-fcps-students.

Please contact Margie Campbell at mmcampbell@fcps.edu with any questions.

PTA Corner

Thank you!

Families, during this season of Thanksgiving we wanted to make sure to take a moment to say thank you to each of you! Thank you for keeping our connection strong through your participation in PTA meetings and events. In addition, we are so grateful to each of you who have joined the PTA or participated in our direct donation campaign. A special thank you goes out to our volunteers, who help do everything from sorting spirit wear to donating books and food to planning and supporting events, and so much more. We truly are better together and we value the many ways you are showing up for our wonderful school community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the PTA board if you have questions or suggestions about how we can continue to support all of our students, teachers, and families.
