Principal's Message - 11/15/20

Stone MS

Good Morning Stone Parents and Families~

In these ever-challenging times, we have gotten used to finding different ways to honor, support and celebrate one another. Staff and students honored our Veterans for their service and sacrifice on Wednesday. Students were celebrated for their first quarter successes on Friday. Our students continue to work hard as they navigate virtual learning. I want to encourage our students to utilize the chat, use their mics, and turn their cameras on if they feel comfortable to increase the level of engagement in classes.

I am proud of the following Portrait of a Panther winners for the week of 11/9:  Zulfia Aman, Isaiah Brown, Mary Fry, Cassidy Martin,  Madeline Maisel, Devin Morgan, MaryAgnes Mutumanje, Ayva Pierre, Genevieve Richards-Poore and Alex Ringhoffer. These students have done an excellent job participating in their classes this week.

While these times of celebration for accomplishments are not the same, we will continue to create opportunities to highlight the successes of our students and staff to maintain our sense of community.

To that end, our Student Council Association (SCA) met this week and organized our first virtual spirit week, which will be November 16-20. Please find the attached flyer.  Students should also look on their schoology account for more information on how to win prizes. We are excited to see our students and staff participation!

I want to remind students to check out the after-school clubs and activities that are offered, as the 2nd quarter schedule has been posted. (Students will need to be logged into their fcpsschools.net account to access the site.) Our students who have participated thus far have really enjoyed the chance to stay connected with some level of activity and be with their peers.

As we provide opportunities for our students to get involved and ways to celebrate them, consider acknowledging the hard work of our staff members through our FCPS Cares program and/or submit a nomination for a Stone Middle School Outstanding Employee. We truly are all in this together as a Stone community: our students, our faculty and staff, and our parents and families. I am so thankful for your partnership as you balance the needs of your individual families and support of our school.

I hope you and your families find some time to rest and relax this weekend.
