A Message from Ms. Jankovich

Happy Friday!

We are continuing to prepare for the return of our Kindergarten students on Tuesday, November 17th.  Thank you to all the parents that attended our Kindergarten Parent Information Night last night.  The link to the recording as well as the presentation from last night will be sent out to you in a separate email later this evening.  We are still waiting on information regarding Kindergarten bus routes and times from the FCPS Transportation office, at which time an e-Nofify message will be sent to you.

As you know, Wednesday was our Veterans Day Virtual Celebration.  What an honor it was to be able to recognize and celebrate the brave men and women who serve and have served in our nation’s military.  Thank you to all our veterans who volunteered to share their experiences with our students.  I know that our students and staff greatly enjoyed being able to continue this important tradition in the virtual setting.  If you missed the virtual ceremony, please click here to view it: Link to Veterans Day ceremonies:

At last night’s School Board session it was decided that Group 6 (Grades 1 and 2) will now tentatively begin concurrent learning on December 7, 2020 (asynchronous learning day) with December 8 being the first day for students with last names beginning with A – K to return to the building for in-person learning.  Ms. Redford and I will be hosting a  1st/2nd Grade Parent Information Night on Monday, December 7th from 7PM – 8PM.  A link will be coming out next week along with communication regarding how the concurrent model will look in 1st and 2nd Grade.

Also discussed at last night’s School Board session was the new return-to-learn date for Group 7 (Grades 3 – 6).  While this date is tentative, it was decided that Group 7 will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, with Monday, January 11, 2021 being an all asynchronous day for grades 3 – 6. Stay tuned for more updates.

As always, thank you for all you do to support the staff and teachers as Sangster.  I cannot tell you the amount of conversations I have had with teachers where they share how amazing the parent community has been during virtual learning.   We are a great team!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

Ms. Jankovich

Positivity Project

Week of November 8

This week’s character strength is Bravery. You show this strength when you act with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary. Bravery refers to voluntary (not coerced) action in the face of a dangerous circumstance. This strength involves judgment; the brave person must have an understanding of the risks and consequences involved in acting. According to Socrates and Plato, forethought separates acts of valor from acts of rashness. This means that bravery isn’t simply fearlessness, but instead the overcoming of fear.

Next Week’s Character Strength: Gratitude

It is easier than ever for Sangster families to access P2 resources this year! The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).
