Orange Hunt News We HOOT

Check out what is happening at OHES!  We are still busy, busy, busy here at OHES sprucing up the place.  We are getting some of our hallways and door frames jazzed up with a fresh coat of paint.  Some of our classrooms as well.  Thank you to FCPS facilities departments for all the help, hard work and improvements.

Kiss and Ride

Orange Hunt has established a Kiss and Ride area designated as a safe place for adults in private vehicles to load and unload students.  The Kiss & Ride is separate from the school bus area.  For all students in Kindergarten through 6th grade who plan to arrive or depart from school using the Kiss and Ride line, parents/guardians will need to complete the OHES Kiss and Ride Application and Contract. We will process application forms as each grade level comes back into the building. We will send home the Kiss and Ride hangtags in your child’s backpack on the first day of instruction in the building.

Veteran’s Day

Things will be a little different this year.  One thing will be an opportunity for you to share a photo of family members that have served in the Armed Forces. Please stay tuned to your classroom teacher's emails for more information.  Thank you to those of you that have already shared this information and thank you for our service!

New employment opportunity in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)!

FCPS schools and centers will be hiring classroom monitors to provide in-person classroom assistance for students when a staff member remains virtual.  If you would like more information about the position, please review the job description and qualifications online and apply if interested. Please feel free to share information about this opportunity with anyone else you think may be interested. If you are specifically interested in Orange Hunt, please email Stacy Radzymski at smradzymski@fcps.edu

Helpful Hints

Providing REINFORCEMENT to children!

Reinforcement is a technique used to reinforce when a child is displaying appropriate behavior. Using positive reinforcement increases the likelihood that a behavior will be repeated in the future. Reinforcement can also be an effective way to encourage and motivate your child to be responsible, do their chores, get along with their siblings, or complete their assignments without arguing.

There are many ways to reinforce the behavior you want to encourage.  You can positively reinforce a child’s behavior by:

  • Clapping and cheering
  • Giving a high five
  • Giving a hug or pat on the back
  • Giving a thumbs-up
  • Offering a special activity, like playing a game or reading a book together
  • Offering verbal praise
  • Giving extra privileges
  • Giving tangible rewards

Aim to offer reinforcement right away once the good behavior starts and continue to provide consistent reinforcement throughout. This will give your child a sense of success and encourage them to continue to demonstrate the appropriate behaviors.

Remember behavior goes where reinforcement flows!

Family Guide for Return to School

Fairfax County Public Schools is partnering with families to ensure we keep students and staff safe and healthy as we return to school buildings for learning. Working together, we will follow the recommended health guidance that focuses on student and staff health, safety, and emotional well-being.

The FCPS Family Guide for Return to School has a wealth of information on topics like concurrent instruction, lunch, the mandatory mask policy, recess, laptops, health protocols, and more.

books

Attention Orange Hunt students

We have our curbside pick of library books. We are divided the school population in thirds so we the number of books going and coming will be manageable.

Books may be picked up at the Kiss and Ride door (8).

Do not come out of your grouping. Your books will not be waiting for you to pick up. Please return your library books at the same time you are getting your new ones. If you still have library books from last spring return them when you come to get your first books.

Books may be put on hold through the library catalog. Five holds will be allowed each student.

The instructions for putting books on hold are in the Google Library Classroom which can be reached at:

    https://classroom.google.com/c/NjU0OTM3MzcxOTda?cjc=uv4dzk7

If the books you are requesting are not available, we will check out a similar book to you. Our goal is to check out 5 books for each student participating. Please remember if you only put the most popular books on hold you will be waiting for a long time. We are hoping that the surprise books will keep you interested.

We are looking forward to getting library books to our students.

Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Hagenow.

Playground Announcement

Once students resume at Orange Hunt ES on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, our playground will not be open to the public during school hours. The playground will be closed from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday - Friday each week. Thank you for partnering with us!

Technology update

There is a new TestNav installation that the county is asking that we have all students with FCPS issued devices install before returning to school. The software can be installed from laptop’s Software Center.  Here are directions to get the software installed. If you have any questions please contact Adam Rice at abrice@fcps.edu
