Veterans Day Tribute Continues
Oak View reminds families there is still time to share a picture or video and honor our Oak View connected veterans and active duty military. This year, since we cannot come together in the physical building, we will come together online. A memorable part of our traditional assembly is when our veterans and active duty military share their connection to our Oak View students. We have found a way to continue this tradition and invite families to include a picture or short clip using the links below. As always, we welcome grandparents, extended family, and/or neighbors to join in the recognition as well. Pictures and video clips will be included in morning announcements throughout the week of November 9.

AAP Referral Parent Info Night - Tuesday
Oak View invites families interested in learning more about the Level IV Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) referral process and screening procedures to a parent info session this Tuesday at 6:30 PM. Interested parents will receive a secure BBCU link after filling out this form. Parents who participated in October General Information Evening will automatically be sent the link to this presentation and do not need to complete form. As a reminder, Level IV Referral Packets for FCPS students in grades 2-7 are due electronically by December 1, 2020. The benchmark for the 2nd grade pool using NNAT scores has not yet been determined. The pool only applies to 2nd graders. If your child is in grade 2 and is not in the pool or your child is in grades 3-6 and you are interested in having him/her screened for Level IV services, a referral must be submitted. Please visit the OV Advanced Academics Blackboard page for easy access to important information and fillable forms, or the FCPS Advanced Academics site for more information. If you have any questions, please contact our Advanced Academic Resource Teacher (AART), Kathryn Moreno-Dunk, at kmorenodunk@fcps.edu.

Eagle Challenge #7: Continues Monday!
With only a short week last week, our Eagle Challenge for this week continues to encourage our Eagle families to Try something new.
Combine last week's Positivity Project trait (creativity) with next week's trait (bravery) to do something you have not ever done before. Coordinate and brainstorm ideas as a family on what everyone might do - together or independently. Go somewhere you’ve never been, cook or bake something, do an art project like origami, try a new activity or sport, eat a food you’ve never had, write a letter to the president, play a new game, build something, take something apart . . . the possibilities are endless. Use the growth mindset and know that failure is possible and that is more than okay. Sometimes you have to say, “I haven’t succeeded . . . YET, but I’ll keep trying and learning!” Be CREATIVE. Be BRAVE. HAVE FUN! And, as always, you are invited to share with the Oak View community by posting a picture or video on the Eagle Challenge Padlet.
Eagle Challenges are fun, optional activities available to all OV students and families. They can be completed at ANY time. Students whose parents have completed the Digital Resources Consent form are invited to post pictures of their Challenge work.
To find out more about the Eagle Challenges and to see past challenges that you are encouraged to do at any time throughout the year, visit the SCA Eagle Challenge webpage.

NEW Tech Tip of the Week
Oak View will post Tech Tips here for families each week we have a new tip to share. This week's tip will help ensure quick response to tech assistance requests:
-
Broken Link? Sometimes, the bookmarked links to your child’s Blackboard Collaborate Ultra link suddenly don’t work. If this happens, here is what you should do:
- Go back to the student FCPS Google Apps Gmail.
- Locate the original (most recent) Collaborate email in the BBCU links label (left side of screen)
- Open email and click on BBCU link
- If the email cannot be located, please send one email to OakViewElem.Attendance@fcps.edu, tlnewman@fcps.edu, and the teacher indicating that the link is no longer working/student is unable to get into class.
- If you have not heard back from anyone within 15 minutes, please call the office to let them know. 703.764.7100.
A new email will be sent to the student Gmail, from Blackboard Collaborate Support. Open that email and click the class link.
Follow the instructions in this video to bookmark the link from the email (so it should not break).
-
Trouble with technology? Please complete the STUDENT Support Request. Please indicate your child’s homeroom teacher and a detailed description of the issue. Our tech team will work as quickly as possible to help troubleshoot the issue. Thank you for patience and if you do not hear back within one business day, please email tlnewman@fcps.edu with the subject line: Technology Issue

Positivity Project Trait of the Week: Bravery
Our Oak View Eagles have shown immense bravery since school closed in-person in March. They have acted with mental, moral, and/or physical strength even when things were difficult or scary. This is how The Positivity Project defines bravery and our students will learn even more about it this week. We always keep bravery in the week with Veterans Day as we know our veterans and their families exhibited bravery throughout their service to our country. Be sure to visit the P2 for Families website. The password to access these Positivity resources can be found on the OV Connection 24-7 site. Thank you for keeping the conversations going at home!
