Return-to-School Notes for Kindergarten Cohorts

Kindergarten families: Please note that there will be a few adjustments to the school schedule next week before the return to in-person learning the week of November 16th. Kindergarten only will have full asynchronous days Thursday the 12th and Friday the 13th to allow teachers to have extra planning and preparation time before their students return to school.

Information about what day individual kindergarten students will be returning for in-person learning will go out to families soon.

Clarification on the Use of Face Coverings/
Masks

FCPS Regulation 2109 establishes procedures for the use of masks/face coverings (cloth or disposable) for students, staff, and visitors designed to mitigate the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19), and other identified infectious diseases during a health crisis.

FCPS supports the use of masks/face coverings, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Currently, the CDC does not recommend using masks/face coverings that have exhalation valves or vents or the use of face shields as a substitute for masks/face coverings. Per the CDC, evaluation is on-going for gaiters, but the effectiveness is unknown at this time.

The use of gaiters or masks/face coverings that have exhalation valves/vents, is not supported by FCPS. An appropriate mask/face covering will be provided for any student not in possession of an acceptable mask/face covering while at school.

Lane Library Reminders

Help Us Find Our Library Books!

We are looking for library books that are still checked out from last school year! Books may be returned during Library Curbside Checkout events (by appointment only) or may be placed in the bin at the main entrance to the school.

Students may see what books they have checked out by logging into their Lane Library catalog account (https://search.follettsoftware.com/metasearch/ui/103844 - use the blue bar with “Fairfax County Public Schools”; go to three-horizontal-bar menu in the top left corner; then go to “Checkouts.”) In addition, reminder notices will be emailed next week. Please note that books must be quarantined for seven days prior to being handled, so students will still see them in their accounts for a week after books are returned.

Thank you in advance for your help in getting our library books back!

Curbside Checkout Continues by Appointment

The Library has started curbside checkout events! However, please note that book checkout is by appointment only. If your child would like to check out books, please follow these steps:

  1. Students may place up to five books on hold using the Lane Library catalog (https://search.follettsoftware.com/metasearch/ui/103844 - use the blue bar with “Fairfax County Public Schools” to log in). A how-to video with details is available in the Lane Library Google classroom. If they haven’t already, students can join the Library Google classroom using this code: moutqv3.
  2. Mrs. Chozick will gather some or all of the books, then send an email to the student’s parent(s) telling them the books are ready. The email will include a link to a Sign-Up Genius for parents to choose a date/time to pick up the books. One student per time slot, please.
  3. Students come on the chosen date/time to pick up their books. A limited selection of other library materials will be available for quick browsing and checkout at that time. Students may also return any library books they have at home at that time.

Again, library books may only be picked up during curbside events. Please do not come to the school at other times to pick up the library books.

We Want to See Your Photos!
