Haycock Hello 11.6.20

Haycock Families,

I want to thank you for replying to our email from last week to confirm or revise your choices for your child’s educational program (continuing with 100% online or moving to in-person instruction).  It was important to hear from you, even if you maintained your decision from this summer. We have made phone calls to many of you this week to confirm your decision.

Yesterday,  Kindergarten parents received an email from school (HaycockES@fcps.edu ) that explains next steps. Next week, parents of grade 1 and 2 students will receive a similar email.  By the end of next week, parents of students in grades 3-6 will be notified by email. As you know, changes to class rosters and schedules are coming.  I regret that some students will be assigned a new teacher in a few weeks.  But I also know that our staff is exceptional and that they’ll be ready to establish great relationships with new students and build joyful, new classroom cultures.  All our teachers are members of a grade level team.  They plan lessons together, solve problems together, and advocate for kids together. I am confident that a new teacher, should your child have one, will continue the great work her/his teammate has started this fall.

Changes to classes are necessary due to the many factors involved in shifting to an in-person program for more than half of our students.  We must honor all parent choices, I must protect staff members with health conditions, and I must stand up two simultaneous programs (online & in-person school) with the same staff.  I appreciate your patience and flexibility.

Specific information will be coming to you via email by early next week for 1st and 2nd grades.  Parents of 3rd-6th graders will receive information the week of the 16th.

As a reminder, FCPS is planning to bring students back to in-person school on the dates below (all dates subject to change):

Week of Nov. 16    Kindergarten

Week of Nov. 30    1st & 2nd Grades

Week of Jan. 4        3rd-6th Grades

In advance of the return dates, teachers will be provided time to plan for the change.  These days will be listed in a forthcoming email, and on these days, work will be assigned but live lessons will not occur.

Thank you,

Dr. Liz Beaty, Principal
